  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4.5k and 4k sensor area?

Or for future reference, the Mysterium sensor photosites are 0.0054mm and square. You can just multiply your number of pixels by that to get the dimensions. So 4KHD (3840x2160) is, for example:

3840 x 0.0054 = 20.73mm
2160 x 0.0054 = 11.66mm

Mysterium 4KHD = 20.73 x 11.66mm

Thanks to both, exactly what I needed. Do we yet know the photosite size in Mysterium-X?

So for Mysterium, the APS-C (22.2mm horizontal) on my 7D is excellent for scouting for 2.4:1 if we end up shooting 4k. Just need to do a little math and tape on the screen properly. However, for 4.5k it falls a little short being a x0.92 crop factor in relation.

Say I am scouting with the Tokina, planning to use the Duclos version with Red as our widest. For 4.5k, if I only planned to use the Tokina as wide as 14mm, I would have to set the zoom at 12.88mm. Please let me know if my math or understanding fails at any point.

The good thing is that I don't plan on shooting with it all the way at 11mm anyway other than for "emergency" or if we had the right nature exterior with no foreground. But in terms of FOV capabilities, even if I did want the FOV of 11mm at 4k, then the bigger sensor area of 4.5k would likely be covered at a focal length that would yield an equal of possibly even a bit wider FOV, right?

I am assuming that since at 15-16mm the Tokina covers full frame 35, and at 16mm that equates to an even wider 10mm equivalent FOV on an APS-C.

So I suppose that relation might hold through various sensor sizes and the focal range-coverage of the lens. I don't know how lenses are made and if there is a linear increase in coverage or if coverage would get larger in a non-linear way...

...sorry if this is a bit too much going in circles but I just got this lens and I am having a heck of a lot of fun with it and getting chills thinking about using it with Red's IQ.
