Hello!
Last week we've made some tests using the build21 beta. We know it's not recommended for commercial use yet, but... the DP was very excited with the 4.5 WS option, and so now we have to ask: is there a complete workflow available for that format? finalcut-color? premiere-aftereffects? vegas maybe?
Or you have to try a mix finalcut-redcine?
Any comments on this issue will be more than welcome.

Thanks a lot in advance!

The quicktime codec is not yet supported in the FCS 3 suite. You may run into some bottlenecks if you are not careful.

No one has advised when it will be supported in software apps but it is unlikely to be supported in Apple apps anytime soon as They only just gained support for 4K.

Hey Martin,

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but SCRATCH and SCRATCH-CINE both fully support 4.5K. Rocket Fuel will actually play it back at full rez high in realtime, and we have several customers who are posting 4.5K jobs.

Best,

Lucas

shoot 4.5k, transcode to 1920 x 1080 fit width to the codec of your choice in redrushes or clipfinder or what ever you use, cut, push out 3600 cmx EDL, conform with monkey extract to the flavor of your choice, cc in the system of your choice, deliver.

easy as that been doing it for months.

I usually edit using the quicktime proxys, then send the sequence to color, and then back to fcp for the finishing touches and output at 1080p. Can that be done with the 4.5k ws proxys? If so I'll jump to build 21 asap. Or do I have to transcode first? Any advice is appreciated.

Best,

Omar

Hi! When you say "cc in the system of your choice", you mean the post production colouring in... red cine, or scratch? Or does other program works with the 4.5 r3d?

Thanks a lot for all the comments, I'm reading and passing all the info you wrote. :)

If you wish to work with 4.5 in an offline/online finishing workflow, I can help you with that. Check your PM.

Anyone know if there is a way to edit 4.5k with Adobe yet? Or, any advice on how to work a little smoother in FCP? Right now, each shot has to be rendered for playback (using the QT proxies).

Hey, we are working out our workflow for a feature film in australia and want to use the 4.5k widescreen. Am i gonna run into trouble using avid mc for our offline? Is Avid up to this yet? Can we indeed shoot 4.5k for 1:2.40 if we are editing in avid? If so .....could someone please tell me how?
