  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4/3 brain

4/3 and micro 4/3 format is an 18mm wide sensor. 22mm image circle. Some of us think a 4k 4/3 format brain would make a nice stepup between 2/3" and S35.

All the 35mm still glass out there could be used without spending $7000 on the s35 brain.

I think the biggest advantage of 4/3 format would be the use of premium quality 4/3 lenses from Leica and Olympus. Since it is an open (supposedly) standard, as a licensee RED could fully implement electronic controls on all 4/3 system lenses without legal problems. A 4/3 or micro 4/3 mount for S35 and FF35 would make shooting 3k format with more compact lenses than 35mm a viable option. 4/3 lenses would cover 3k on the S35 and FF35 sensors. R&D would be minimized since the protocols for the standard are already defined. The main disadvantage is that it is a very new standard, but the GH1 may be a big booster to its acceptance.
If 2/3" is the "16mm" of the digital world, micro4/3 should be the "super16mm" format.

The 'micro' is just the mount. A 4/3 sensor brain from red should work with micro 4/3 mount lenses as well as 4/3 lenses and 35mm lenses

4/3rds, 4K, 4 grand would compete nicely with the vDSLR's

You know what would be even more nice? A 2/3rds 3K camera shooting 120 fps with a fixed super topnotch quality lens, in a ready to shoot out of the box for only 4K.
