Does RED DSMC2 system take 3 party memory cards? if so name brands. The cards are super expensive and it can make or break your budget.

This board is like early 2012 all over again with the influx of Scarlet owners. Good times!

If you're interested to know - it has something to do with people using 3rd party media on the Red One and publicly blaming the RED cameras for dropped frames, though it was because the 3rd party cards could not handle the data rates. So I believe RED made the decision to have complete quality control over this to avoid any more drama.

Haha it totally is. This was me back then.

Cfast is awfully unreliable. Head over to the BMD forums and you'll see multiple threads about corrupted footage and format errors. I wouldn't trust it even if RED for some INSANE reason decided to engineer a Cfast side module.

REDMAGs are bulletproof. Period. End of story. You get what you pay for. The last thing I want to save money on is media. Media HAS to work. It costs to much to reshoot. Why is this such a issue? If the cost of media is prohibitive for your situation, there are other cameras out there. I've never heard of someone with a Bentley bitch about how expensive a brake job is. You're paying for the guarantee that the mags will work, and your footage will be there after the shoot has wrapped.

Yes this is Scarlet X all over again. Gotta stay patient though, it's a good thing so many people are coming to the RED side!

With you.... All those points are still valid, it's best when RED chooses media and has control over quality control and things like the firmware. Media is the most important thing here, so just don't mess with it.

Seriously, if you can't afford as much REDMAGs as you desire, then there are much better solutions today, than a few years ago. It's so easy and fast to mirror a REDMAG on a cheap little notebook, with external SSDs/HDDs or even CFast-cards. It's easy to get over it.
