Hi all!

An engineer friend of mine is working on unlocking SSDs and 3rd party Cf cards for the good old Red one Mx, actually, he may have solved it already..
But he needs someone near London with this camera to run his last tests, if you are in the area, please reach out!
The dream may finally come true..

Greetings from Paris!

The most organic Red camera ever..
If you know a Londoner with a Red one Mx, please let me know so we can officialise that soon!

Ps : My friend wrote me that :

"Please make them 100% sure that their camera's will be safe! I will not interfere with the camera itself at all. I just want to see how it reacts to a few different setups and I will set up everything externally.
I will need to connect the SSD controller (and not the camera!) to something I made that goes to my computer. So that I can inspect their behaviour. I have a positive feeling that this may work."

Let's make that happen guys!

I see now the used market will explode for sure! This is really cool if it is to eventuate. Finally we can care about the old stuff again! The 1MX def has a good future still and if this is the case, your friend in London has unlocked another tier of awesomeness. I hope this might extend over to the DSMC1 SSD's ...
First things first! I know of one here in Norway that might be willing to undertake these tests. Keep us updated!

You have my vote here!

I love people who think progressive. Big ups!

Humm, I'd like to connect with your friend. We might be working on something similar...

I assume most of us have positive intent with our reverse engineering efforts to continue the life of the R1, however we need to be careful as this can quickly become a touchy
subject, especially on these forums. You also need to carefully read the terms of use for any active RED products that you own and operate.

@PatrickWebb, Thank you for your encouraging words my friend! I love seeing enthusiasm!

@Kyle Simukka, Thankfully, the Red one is to them a dead dinosaure they don't care about anymore..

Let's connect.

Ha! You just hurt every the feelings of every R1 still alive out there :)

But this is cool... and am totally good with this experiment happening. Normal disclaimers of if you break it it’s on you but for the R1 your already kinda on your own anyways so have at it :)

@ Dan Kanes : My team is Europe based and we have what we need to run our tests, but having a Red one camera in London would speed things up quite considerably ..
So if you know someone, please let me know and Thank you for proposing your help!

@ Jarred : Red1s and Red one lovers have their skin thick..! ;)
And Thank you for not banning the project ;)

Truly talented minds are on board guys, pray for us..

Mendes, I linked to your request in the R1 Facebook group. Lots of people would like to see this happen (and help if they can), but no one in London yet. As a last resort, would it be possible to coordinate over video chat with someone?

Kudos to Jarred for supporting this. He has a lot of love for the R1 and even though the product may be EOL, I'm sure he loves that the camera is still being used and appreciated by people all over the world.

As long as people understand and respect that there's nothing RED can do if something goes wrong, i.e. someone loses an important shot, I think it can turn out well.

I hope R1 filmmakers keep shooting on it for years to come. It's got its own special place in filmmaking history.

@Nick : Can someone accept my request to enter the Red one group? I've sent it about one week ago.

There are two ways you guys can help :

- Finding a Red one owner near London

- Sending a Red drive that you are willing to say goodbye to.. Europe based, 1 drive is great, 2 is better..

As for the coordination through the video chat, that would be of no help, and above all, i have to protect my team.

The only thing i can tell you is that i feel very privileged to be part of some wild and fascinating discussions, again, brilliant minds are on board and if you are willing to help, you already know how ;)

@ Steve : Indeed, it feels great to have his blessing ;)

If you cannot find a drive in Europe, I do have a RED Drive I'm willing to donate. One of the drives inside stopped working as it no longer mounts.
I believe the ports, LEMO connector, and other parts of the drive are still fine.

Please let me know if you need it.

@Mendes Nabil

I have reached out to the group moderator to expedite your admission to the group (I don't think he checks the group often since he doesn't own the camera anymore). In the meantime, I have reposted your request. There are over 700 people in that group. Hopefully at least one will be in Europe and have a Red Drive for you.

Nice one! Long live the R1! :D

Drop me a line on this- might be able to save you a bunch of work. Not just a UK owner of a RED One still, but know a thing or two about what you’re looking at doing :)

@ Brian :
To give you a tiny bit more information, we already have a drive, but having 2 others (at best) would speed things up considerably..
If we don't find ones in Europe, i'll let you know. Thank you a lot for your proposition!

@Nick : Thank you very much, i'll post a message there!

@John : I'm dropping you a line..

This project feels like an archeological exploration and i'm blessed to be surrounded by masters at their craft.
I'm telling you guys, we are on the right path..

Thank you all for the support!

@Mendes Nabil

Yes, would love to hear an update. Were you able to find an R1 body in London?
