So it looks like a few of my RED branded CF cards have disappeared...

I'm in a bit of a bind and can't wait for delivery of new ones, but is there a 3rd party 8GB CF card on the market that is fast enough for RED ?

I tried doing a search but couldn't find the relevant info...thanks!

Lexar 300x UDMA. You'll pay through your butt for it but it's the closest off-the-shelf card to what RED sells which is based on those cards.

Ludwig Camera Rental in Germany point out that their previously working 8GB Sony CF-Cards won't work since build 15. So I don't know if RED blocked all 3rd party CF-Cards or not. Ludwig claims that the Sony CFs were even faster than the RED-brand if I recall correctly.

I just used 10 of the lexars all day today without a single issue. I bought some of the Soderbergh batch. There's also a rebate right now and they can be had for less than $100 bucks each. Red won't guarantee that they'll work, but mine do.

Adorama, B&H, others too, I'm sure. It's about $169 then there's an $80 mail in rebate. So, $89 plus shipping and tax if in state. But I think Adorama even ships free. The FW800 UDMA CF card readers have $35 a rebate now, too. So, they end up being $25. There's a limit of 3 per household on the rebate and it ends April 30th. Snatch 'em up.

I've used the Lexar's for months now. It says on the back of the Red cards they are "Powered by Lexar". The idea Lexar made a different card purely for Red seems rather unlikely.

As cheap as it gets at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Lexar-Profess...5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1209049175&sr=1-5

Just download the rebate pdf from Samy's site, and you're down to about $80.

Be a little cautious on this. The rebate form says "Vaild at Pro Photo Dealers on the following product UPC code(s) only" Limit (3) rebates per product category per household. Amazon is probably selling same UPC as Pro Photo Dealers but just don't go over (3) per name/address.

Don't forget that today is the last day you can buy the 8 GB cards with a $80 mail in rebate. I found Adorama.com had the best deal: $169.99 + free ground shipping! That makes the card $90 after rebate. The only problem is you are limited to 3 cards per address.
