3K is a very interesting addition to the lineup. You can shoot 3K, 60fps REDCODE 36 to CF or RED Drives.

Cropped or scaled?

Cropped, of course. There is NO ADVANTAGE to scaled. I have said this many times before.

A scaled image can NOT have a higher frame rate due to the clock speed of the sensor.

This way you CAN have 60fps and record to RED Drive or 50fps to CF.

3k is cropped.. a 3k sensor extraction. Cropped is beneficial in many ways, for example lower quality optics usually improves as your not using the edges.

Resolution for 3k 2:1 is 3072x1536, and 3k 16:9 is 3072x1728.

There is NO ADVANTAGE to scaled. I have said this many times before.

Well, except for retaining field of view, relative depth of focus, and improved imade due to overampling.

But as far as speed advantages go, yes it will not change anything.

3k is sounding pretty good if it is what i think it is. cropping the sensor somewhere in the middle of super35 and super 16.
