I'm about to shoot some indoor harshly lit stuff, so I am planning on shooting 3k HDRX. I have three mysteries that I can't find any info on.

1) HDRX -- I can't get any tools outside of Redcine-x to understand this. Do I need to render it all within Redcine-x and then export as dpx or prores? How do folks cut HDRX footage and then run the project through Resolve?

2) Comound clips -- I can't get Resolve or Redcine-x to understand FCPX compound clips. Do I just need to not use that feature of Final Cut when editing r3d files?

3) Resolve colors the black letterboxes of 3k HDRX footage. I assume I'm making some minor error in setting up the project? Or is this just a "viewer" pane issue? Or is Resolve creating black bars and then coloring them? The reported resolutions in Resolve look like what my camera shot, but it's clearly coloring the letterboxes...

Thanks in advance for any insights or tips on these questions,

1) Page 478 in the Resolve manual explains using a layer mixer to combine the two tracks. That would work if you're grading R3D clips. If your workflow involves some kind of rendering pre-grade, then you could render the A track and the X track as separate DPX sequences and still use the layer mixer to combine them.

3) If your footage is letterboxed, Resolve will color the bars. You should enable Blanking in the Sizing palette to mask them.
