so i've shot 2k, 3k and 4k all 16x9 and want to run it all through color. i heard that 3k was only outputting 1.5k but when i output to 1080 prores from color, 3k looks better from color than when it comes straight out of redcine. it sent to color as a smaller framed 16x9 so i scaled it's geometry and rendered. since color is referencing the original r3d file, doesn't that mean that all the resolution is there to scale with anyway?

the wrapped log and transfer 3k quicktime is full 3k and looks great too.

i guess i'm just not sure what the problem is with 3k in color. can anyone explain what i'm missing and why i cannot do 2k, 3k and 4k all in color?

thanks

Would love to hear some opinions on this also. I am just finishing up my first red job and in the end transcoded my 3k stuff to ProRES HQ but its not to late to go back to R3Ds if its worth it. I am delivering at 1080p and at least on of the 3k shots has a major repo on it (which i did in before the ProRES transcode).

thanks

Unfortunately Color is doing a half decode only of 3K files.
I never use RC (too unstable here), but Clipfinder is giving me great results when doing a full decode to 1920 x 1080 ProRes with some first-light from RA.

You can't do 3K or 4K in Color. 2K is the maximum, which is why it's scaling the 3K material to 1.5K. If for some reason you need to grade 3K/4K, you'll need to do that in either Redcine or Scratch.
