I need to setup a Log DI workflow, in Apple's Color. I don't have any 3D LUTS for Color.

1. Do I need specific 3D LUTS for my monitor ? I use Apple's 30" Cinema monitor, calibrated with X-Rite's Eye1.
2. Can I use 3D LUTS from another facility?
3. If I need specific 3D LUTS. do I have to use Cinespace's Cube builder to create my own 3D LUTS?

Why don't you contact Evangelos Achillopoulos? He's on this forum, greek and knows all of this very well…

Hello Uli... I could help him but I'm not doing that in my country... sorry not yet...

You see I have a DI house that its reputation is based in the knowledge of color management for film out...

Chris if you have a movie for film-out you can call me and arrange a good deal... and get benefit like others from LA, NY, Netherlands, Croatia, Cyprus, Israel and Egypt...

Our latest, one week ago, film-out was "Hayu Leilot" of Ron Ninio from Israel with excellent results... Color grading was done in Israel by Ido Karilla lab, film recording was done in Athens....

The words of DoP Ofer Inov IMDB link

"I want to emphasize that it is maybe the best transfer job from HD to 35mm that I have seen !
On behalf of Roni (the director) and myself, thank you for your Kind and warm hospitality, and the inspiring technical lessons .
waiting for further collaboration"

I think he may be referring to the fact that his services are for his DI house and he brings the project in there to ensure quality throughout the entire process. It seems he does not offer this to others outside that system - not even in his own country.

As tools get into the hands of many, differentiation of services is based on the intellectual property of the one providing the service be it creative or technical. I hear this from facilities (big or small) from around the world - it is a tricky tipping point to provide enough services to ensure the clients success without losing that job to someone else because you have educated them. I am not saying what is right or wrong - just what happens to business models as tools become a commodity - the value is placed elsewhere and protected as much as possible.

Let me clear it up... in general Mike got it right but in my case is slightly different because I do provide the know how to whom I will select.

I have a DI house in Athens Greece, we are in a very small country of 10 million people that speaking Greek, we produce a maximum of 15 features per year... In Athens we have four DI houses with five film recorders... the competition is crazy... there is a DI house that has losses of 2 million euro's every year the last six subsequent years!!! for them is a hobby... so for us that we try to make our living and pay our loans, its a very difficult situation...

If I will give my know how to someone else in Athens, I will put in, on over saturated market, another competitor over my head...

My know how is the only thing I have to compete... My know how is what makes my work competitive in a worldwide scale...

As we are now in Greece, there is absolute no profit for anyone... I will create another competitor? why?

I have paid hundred of thousands euro's to learn everything I know... why to share unless I have a profit?

When I'm doing the consulting to Egypt or to Israel and getting a piece of their market to my company, there is a big business case why I'm doing that...

I even don't put a second partner in countries that are small, in order my existing partner to make a profit of his investment... why I will do it in my country?

I hope its clear...

So Chris again, if you want, my doors are open... to do your self the Color grading in my machines and transfer your work with one of the best DI log process in the world with a very competitive pricing...

My best wishes to your efforts...

Thanks for your advice Evangelos.
If I need any further info, i'll let you know...
