I would like to shoot with a .cube LUT applied for viewing live during filming. Im new to shooting with a LUT. As of now I can see that an RMD can be loaded onto the camera for a similar effect, I would like to know what options are out there for doing the same with .cube LUTS.

How well do typical film based 3d LUTs work with redlogfilm in-camera? I always thought the log Red used was problematic for this no?

LUTs do NOT work in camera.

I'll repeat that.

You cannot, as of right now (and nothing has been announced that this will be available in-camera in the future) apply a LUT.

You *can* apply a look through metadata. This is close to a 1D LUT, but not equivalent, as there are things you can do in the Metadata that you cannot do with a 1D LUT. Red works with RMD files, which stands for Red MetaData.

If you want to use a 3D LUT with Red footage on set, you can do so externally. Same as with many other cameras. Load a LUT into a LUT Box from one of a variety of makers, pump the footage through (typically you'll send RedLog Film out the SDI on the back of the camera) and the LUT Box applies the LUT. In fact, for sets that use multiple types of cameras on the same day, this is not uncommon, as it means that the workflow for each camera on set is the same. There's value in that, even if you are not using each individual camera to it's peak potential through it's own highly specialized tools.

If you want to load a 3D LUT into the camera, you cannot do that.

If you want to create a look in RedCine-X and save that as an RMD that you can load into the camera, you *can* do that.

There's also the option of using the SmallHD 7" DP7 - PRO LCD monitor, which accepts 3d LUTS via an SD card i believe. Here's the link. There is others that perform the same operation in the range with a higher spec, but this is the cheapest out of the lot - if you were willing to spend a few extra pennies.

Just a thought.
