Creatively speaking, how do you think 3D will alter the emotional response of the audience?

For example let's say that we are cutting back and forth between two characters who are talking directly to eachother, however the convergence is set so that character 1 is 'coming out of the screen' but character 2 isn't... I believe that this scenario will direct the audience to concentrate on character 1 and view the scene through their point of view. (Although that obviously a number of factors will contribute to who's point of view the audience will look through)

Do you agree, disagree or have any other point of view on how 3D can be used to enhance the effect of film? (apart from that fact that bullets coming out of the screen will look cool)

3D is a strong vehicle of emotional involvement, and for Drama can bring that added dimensionality of fear, love, interest,
and detailed view of things, so IMO it is a fantastic re-discovered tool that will enrich our Movie going experience deeply, when
well done.

You would not to that with simple dialogue, characters do not come out of the screen, you would do such exaggerated effects
only for something is in movement, never a stationary subject, or object, never leave anything stationary in front of the pint of
focus, and or even a slow moving one, it will cause issues, only fast moving subjects, and or object can be placed in front of the
focused area. Anything that comes out of the screen, needs to have a unilateral movement towards the viewer in order to give
a nice effect, of course there is many ways to skin a cat, so many ways to interpret a scene, but anything coming out of the
screen must have a purpose and this is not one of them.

You are probably and most certainly right that doing what I suggested would not work... but its something I would like to test anyway. I need to start watching more narrative based 3D movies and studying them.

Ketch, do you think 3D will do it 2D what color did to black and white? Or do you think 2D will be as popular as 3D? (Of course some films are still being shot in black and white but are greatly out-numbered by color films)

Personally I would have trouble watching a long scene of dialogue with those darn 3d glasses on...

FWIW, somewhat out of context, but from the last paragraph of his review of RANGO, Roger Ebert's take on 3D –

"Here's what I hope: Lots of families will see this. They won't have a single thought about its being in 2-D. They will pay ordinary ticket prices. They will love the bright colors and magnificent use of space. In a few weeks, they'll go to a 3-D movie and wonder, why did we have to pay extra for this?"

Hope you don't mind me quoting you, Roger.
