My 3D crew and I just returned form China shooting a big screen 3D action feature film entitled "Detective Dee" prequel for China's most famous film director Tsui Hark. Director Hark was very pleased with the performance of our Deep Atom and they supplied a 3ality Atom rig along with the 2 Epic X cameras. Everything worked incredibly well. We shot in parallel and required precise control of the IO as all of our footage was shot against green screens and the metadata supplied from the 3ality IO box would later be use in post for CGI FX. It was amazing to finally get our Deep Atom on a big film after all the hard work that was put into the design and manufacture of this integrated system.

Thanks for posting, Ross. Good to see you getting busy with the rig.

I would expect Deep Atom presenting some challanges with green screen because of severe chromatic aberrations, astigmatism and distortions caused by flat port. Would you like to share how the director is dealing with those limitations? Do you have any 1:1 frame grabs you could post?

Not really Pawel the entire 3D Fxs team on this production are extremely happy with all the images shoot with our rig so your input is not really appreciated thanks anyway.

In pic 3 is that a real horse ? That's something I've never seen a horse against an underwater greenscreen. Amazing stuff.

I have to say Congratulations! Tsui Hark (usually we call him XuKe, which is his Chinese name) is the only director who can manage 3D well in China and always have genius idea (there's 2 other directors can do 3D, but not even acceptable to my opinion), and<detective DEE> is one of the most popular movie series in China! I know a unlucky 3D crew hired by another director here, and can do nothing because the director knows nothing... One of my friend who work in a company for 3D shooting(my friend do 3D scanning, not shooting), and their shooting always turn to disasters, 2 month ago they shoot a short commercial movie with a huge budget, and the script is about 15 minutes, but after 2 months hard work, what they shot only got 30 seconds left because the poor 3D quality they shot, and there is no story left there.

Thanks for your positive feedback Zhang ;-) Tsui Hark (XuKe) seemed to me to be very aware of what he was doing and extremely focused and innovative in his craft. His 3D crew was also extremely competent and they seemed to be very proficient and skilled in 3D technique. For the underwater and wetset component of this film the Deep Atom was the only choice for their production as it supported all the 3ality Atom rigs they were using topside.
