360 shutter angle for low frame rates on raptor?

Hi all

I need to shoot some low-frame-rate 360-shutter angle footage for some effects, but the raptor won't let me.

I used to shoot like this on my old Reds all the way down to 1fps, but the Raptor and Komodo only go down to 6.25fps and a 93.8 shutter angle, and there's no stills mode anymore. Why has Red removed features in its new lineup?

Is there a workaround, or is it a hardware issue?

Hey Olli, I asked this question before and there never was a good answer just its so complicated and bla bla. Fact is old cams could do it so why can't the new ones. Does not seem like it will be a thing. Although it is a bit better with the raptor x I have been told.

Real shame as it’s so useful for creative shooting. Luckily I still have my old Epic so might have to fire that up for this shoot.

I have called multiple times over the last year plus, even upgraded to Raptor X hoping it would come. Jarred even mentioned that it was in an alpha build about 1.5 years ago in an email when I asked about it (randomly got him through GDU). Got a reply from someone at RED tech support saying - “just get a Helium” - but I sold that to finance the Raptor, haha.

Seems a lot of people want this feature. Every RED I have owned since the OG Scarlet was the ultimate timelapse machine because of this (using frame processing/interval/360). Raptor X is improved over Raptor, but still no 360 shutter at 1 fps.

Please can we get this feature RED?

If anyone’s interested this is the reply I got from red feature requests;

“Thank you for reaching out and providing feedback. The high-speed design of the current generation sensor has limitations on longer exposure times. We continue to push our development to achieve longer exposure times while simultaneously maintaining our high-speed readout. V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X can achieve down to 1/6th of a second, however V-RAPTOR 8K VV, V-RAPTOR 8K S35, and the Original KOMODO do have a maximum speed of 1/24.

What features or functions are you looking for in a Stills Mode? “

Difficult phrasing to understand, is a hard no or something that can be done. 1 fps 360 shutter is my request.

Yeah faster processor newer camera but still doesn’t do what the older cameras did. Why??
