I think the same was the case with Sergey K where many people sweared about his professionalism, until he burnt Robert Horwell and myself, among many others. I still haven't heard from Sergey. I think the experience of every customer should be respected, especially when it's bad.

Don't lump Sam in with Sergey. Samson ships the lens to you WITHOUT PAYMENT. Then you pay him. That's trust and honesty. I have bought several pieces from him, and they all show up and then I pay. If you think you are getting ready to shoot optics from any of the eastern block guys, you are delusional. If it got shipped from Olex services, I'm sure it's good. But if it came straight out of the leaky concrete warehouse to your front door, you are buying a funky old lens that needs to be serviced.

Nick

I agree with Nick. Again: 'WITHOUT PAYMENT' to check it and decide. He didn't point a gun in Your face and say "PAY!". This is almost incredible that someone trust other person and do what Sam did. And now You are whine about it. It's not fair. Very not fair.
Generally i think Sam is very reliable Seller. A real PRO. I would trust Him 100%.

It may be true that Sam T now ships his lenses from Olex Services, but did he not burn a customer before changing his methods? Did he reach a resolution with the burnt customer?

Nick, please show professionalism. Calling anyone 'delusional' is disrespectful and I had hoped you were taught better than that.

Remember: people know people, for example I may know someone at UPF.TV :)

First of all, if you haven't dealt with the man, you don't know what you are talking about. Secondly, Sam sends you the lens and then you pay him after you inspect it and decide if you want to keep it. He's about the only seller I ever met who does that.

Um Ali, perhaps english isn't your first language and you are misunderstanding. I didn't call you anything.

+1.

Hey guys, I've recently bought from Sam and others on this board.

I insisted the lens from Sam be sent to Olex as a mediator because:
1. I've met Olex in person,
2. Olex is old school and highly trustworthy,
3. I've done a lot of business with Olex for a long time and only had the best results from his work.

Olex inspected the lens from Sam (apparently it was not directly from Sam, he was a broker) and stated that it was in adequate condition for sale though does need quite a bit of servicing to come up to standards. OK, fine, old lenses from 1/2 around the world need collimation and cleaning: this I understand and accept. The deal was a bit stressful nonetheless, and payment method was initially a stressful pain in the a$$. MoneyGram in person (not via the internet) did the trick, though it was still a nail-biter. Western Union will give you trouble from time to time. Given these circumstances, I would do business with Sam again. HOWEVER, anything I buy from eBay or other international sellers goes straight to Olex first.

Now, this here was a deal for a lens priced well under $10k. I admonish anyone here proposing to buy anything for a larger sum of cash to travel in person to the city where the seller lives and buy after holding the item in your hand and mounting it on a camera. I've been to these countries, I've even gone to Australia for a prebuy inspection. It's only a couple of thousand more to get a plane ticket and hotel for a night or two; but the insurance you get to inspect before buying is priceless. Plus, you meet some tremendously interesting people along the way.

I've also recently had 2 other experiences from Reduser members, one good, one bad. The good one was with Rick. He was very honest and forthright about the lens he sold me and the price reflected what he (and I) felt was the reasonable condition of the glass. Rick is awesome, forthright and a good, honest seller.

Then there is the other guy in Los Angeles. You know who you are, other guy, and I'm comin' for ya. I bought a lens from this unscrupulous jerk who hid a chip that is on the front element and a mess of "cleaning" marks on inner elements from me. Looking at the lens groups at an angle, you can see a hazy/milky film... not good. He never disclosed the condition of this lens before sale (it looks fine in the photos he sent) and I was ripped off to the tune of $10,000 for scrap metal and glass for the recycle bin. Anyone who wants the details of this sale please contact me off board. He is trying to sell other items for high ticket dollars and they just aren't up to snuff.

Please contact me if you are interested in the details of this sale and I will tell you everything.

I am an experienced buyer and I still got ripped off by a seller in the USA no less. Be forewarned, there is no buyer protection on Reduser like there is on eBay. Proceed with caution.

BTW, I've had a tremendous response of support for my problems with the seller I mentioned here.
Thank you everyone for your kind words! Reduser members have proven that one bad egg does not spoil the bunch. It's nice that everyone is interested in helping each other out!

Merry Christmas everyone! (Everyone except Scrooge Mc Ripoff Seller you know who you are, bah humbug!)
