32gb to 64gb late 2015 5K Retina Performance

Looking for opinions on upgrading to 64gb on my imac, do lots of 1-2 hour timeline renders, mixed 4,5,8K rendered to 4K. I am not too much of a computer guy, think its worth the $800?

Fire up a render and then open Activity Monitor and check to see how much memory is in use.

good idea, I am constantly having fcpx close during renders, its really pissing me off loosing that much time

on a small render (4 minute cut) it is only using 10gb, but showing 745% of cpu?

I seem to recall an issue with 5k iMacs and 64gb of ram. Have a google and stay away from that config for now.

The OWC 64GB RAM upgrade did not work properly in my 5k imac. someone mentioned another RAM configuration in a previous thread but I can’t remember which one was recommended.
