$30 for Cheap, Flexible RED Accessory??? Check it Out!

Wow, thanks...you just saved me £50 - I was thinking of getting one of these Speedy clamps to attach a monitor arm but they're rather expensive for what they are:

Does anyone know of a European outlet for these cheaper clamps?

Shawn,

Here are a few shots of our heavy investment into the little nano-clamp - battery mount but also a couple of LCD configurations we've been using successfully. I just noticed Larry McKee's post about using the clamp with the Origo which we also do very comfortably for certain configurations - it takes a 1/4 - 20 set screw and the possibility of little nylon washer or two to get just the angle you may be looking for.

We did noticed that the clamp slipped on ET rods but only because the perfect surface of their rods has so little tooth. On a piece of simple 5/8s aluminum rod the clamp holds without problem - you can see this set up in one of the shots.

We're on a budget here and come from a pretty serious DIY state of mind so this little clamp is great for us.

Nice set-up, David. Where do you get the posts that screw into the cheese plate/top mount?

I bought 2 and they're fantastic for holding the lcd.

David, the posts are really just a couple of 5/8 x 1 in. aluminum rods through which we bored 3/8 clearance holes with 3/8 16 x 1 1/4 in. socket head cap screws tying them down to the ET top cheese plate.

If you are not set up to bore out the rod, I'd be happy to make up a couple (gratis) and drop them into the mail to you.

I'm glad to see some folks saving a few bucks. It always feels good to give a little something back to this group of people, who are so generous with their time and knowledge.

My Nano seems to hold just fine on ET 15mm rods -- just to add another view on that report. I have both RED 19mm set-ups and ET 15mm studio, on two different cameras. That's why I love this little clamp, it works interchangeably and most of the other accessory mounts do not--and if they do, you pay up!

Meryem, it does seem odd I had that trouble with the nano and the ET 15mm rod. I give it another try with one of the other clamps and report back.

Hi David: It does seem a little odd, but the top rods on the original pics that I posted at the beginning of the thread are ET 15mm (bottom are RED 19mm), so one of the things I was most excited about was the easy interchangeability. But things are not always completely consistent in RED world, so it pays to hear a few viewpoints...

We sell the Nano clamps and in fact I gave some design opinions on the product to Bogen/Manfrotto about a year or so ago. The clamps are quite strong but you will find a leverage point come into plat with a great deal of weight, where the clamp will rotate on the rod as gravity fights it. The clamp itself will not fail, but if the weight is too great or cantilevered out too far then there can be some rotation. This is also true for larger grip clamps like the Cardellini.

The Nano is a great little universal widget and for the price I suggest everyone have a couple in their kit for who knows what. And of course you know where you can buy 'em... ;-)
