I'm pretty excited by this simple device...the Bogen Nanoclamp 386B

It's a rail clamp that fits tube sizes 13-35mm, so you can move it from your 15mm top rods to your 19mm bottom set-up, all in a single INEXPENSIVE device. You can under-sling your LCD with ease, use it for mic mounts, wireless mounting, on-camera light, you name it...it has 3/8'' and 1/4'' female screw attachments, so it is pretty flexible. And can hold up to 12 lbs. of weight.

And it adds very little weight to your camera, so it is great for lightweight set-ups.

Most mounting devices for the RED cost you hundreds of dollars for the same functionality, but this little doo-dad will set you back $30. It's the most lightweight and flexible mounting device that I've seen, and can be used in a bunch of applications. Did I mention it is only $30?

I've been using a Zacuto mount to hold my LCD, but this is just as good and it costs about $250 less....don't get me wrong, I love Zacuto stuff and just sent them another $2300 of my money for a follow focus, which looks very nice, and some lens supports.

But how often do you get away with a $30 part for the RED?? Especially one with this degree of functionality....

Here are some pictures...I threw these together with the LCD, but it can be used with a lot of other accessories as well. I tried to show the flexibility -- top mounted on 15mm rods, underslung on 19mm rods, and mounted to a tripod leg, all within a matter of seconds....

Thanks for the tip. A great suggestion, I ordered one today.

Available from Abel Cine Tech. ;-)

wow, good find! thanks for sharing - ordered 2.

I got one to mount my Origo onto. Whenever it gets here.:whistling:

Been messing with this a bit more, and here's another thing...

stores flat! With the right foam cut-out to store it in, I may never have to unscrew this LCD again.

glad to give a tip to the redusers, who have done so much to educate me...looks like I need some tips on cleaning the LCD, however, yuk.

I'm just skeptical as to whether it gives a strong enough grip on the rods.

It claims to hold something like 12 lbs I think. I originally bought mine for the EVF. It won't hold the EVF securely to the rods - it slides down. But, it should do fine with the LCD and other lightweight accessories.

I think two of these, in use with the ET battery plate, could make a nice battery mount.

Shawn, I had the same thought and now have a very sweet and secure $60 battery mount.

I bought four of these little guys and am using them all over the camera. Thanks again for the time Meryem.

But dont you need metal behind the battery port (such as the ET $75 plate)?

Can you post a few pics of what you did?

Shawn, I will try to get a snap shot this morning. May fall a little into the "don't try this at home" category but it works like a charm.

Shawn,

Here are a few shots of our heavy investment into the little nano-clamp - battery mount but also a couple of LCD configurations we've been using successfully. I just noticed Larry McKee's post about using the clamp with the Origo which we also do very comfortably for certain configurations - it takes a 1/4 - 20 set screw and the possibility of little nylon washer or two to get just the angle you may be looking for.

We did noticed that the clamp slipped on ET rods but only because the perfect surface of their rods has so little tooth. On a piece of simple 5/8s aluminum rod the clamp holds without problem - you can see this set up in one of the shots.

We're on a budget here and come from a pretty serious DIY state of mind so this little clamp is great for us.

Thanks Meryem, David.
And my wife believes I waste my time at this forum. In fact she believes I waste my time period!
