Ok, here goes. So, I have just spent an hour trying to get my Build 15 RED to boot while having LCD, EVF, RED Drive and RED battery all plugged in. My final solution to get it to boot up was to unplug the LCD before booting and plug it back in after booting( As some of you may know, this forces me to have to deal with the flicker issue on the LCD if you plug in after booting). I am guessing from the solution that this could be a power issue, maybe? Is this a common bug, or is there a solid solution to be able to boot with all accessories plugged in. It seems like an easy fix to leave the LCD unplugged, but this one is more of the principal of the thing. Come on RED...

Second question. I am using a Samsung Syncmaster as our reference monitor in video village, which looks good and works good with HDMI to DVI. The issue I am having is getting the menus to appear on both the RED LCD and the monitor. I have "DVI menus" selected under monitor settings. If I unplug the RED LCD while also plugged into the Samsung I will get my menus and frame lines, but then I have no RED LCD. If I plug the RED LCD back in, I lose the camera info and frame lines again on the Samsung. Any suggestions on getting the info, most importantly, the frame guide lines, on both monitors?

Third question. This may be due to heat, camera was very hot but the Temp read-out read "OK". We also were using cold packs for extra cooling. Here is what happened. While going to playback to view the last take I would hit "Play" button and then see the first frame of the last shot, like normal. As soon as I hit play again to view the shot the screen(EVF, RED LCD and Video Village) turn a horrible purple that is two shades split in two horizontally. The back info LCD reads "booting..." and I lose all control of the camera. The fan is silent for a minute or so and then kicks back into high. I can not even power down using the power key. Both times this happened I had to just remove the battery, which is the last thing I wanted to do. Luckily, we transfered footage right after and did not lose anything, but definitely a scary and awkard thing to have happen when your Director wants to view the last shot and then hears the Operator spitting out obscenities while seeing a wierd purple screen and not his last take. I gave it several minutes hoping for it to snap out of it with no luck, I then proceeded to final resort which was removing the battery, then replacing the drive and rebooting.

So, I have had a day full of problems and hope not to have them anymore. I need some help here. I hope ya'll RedUsers have some answers for me. Thanks in advance for any help.

I can only answer the first question, which is to say that yes, it is a known bug with B15. I had the same problem and have just had to get used to unplugging the LCD during boot.

It has either not been fixed in B16, or it's a cable issue. I put in a support ticket with RED last week and haven't heard back, so I can't say.

Hi Tanner

1. I can't answer this one because I have a Carrion LCD and am very happy with it.

2. If you have both the EVF and LCD hooked up to the camera there is no way to send out info from the HDMI port of the camera. You can only send out info from the HDMI port if you only have 1 of either the LCD or EVF hooked up.

3. Playback from the camera is ALWAYS a bad idea. Avoid this at all costs. Not only does it cause the camera to have turrets but you are messing with precious footage. I wish there was no playback feature on the camera at all. Playback is for joe holiday handy cam and has no place on a professional camera.

True, at the moment you can't have menus on more than 2 monitors at the same time.

I am not using the harddisks but never had any problems with playback other than an audio error which would be gone if you'd try again. Even if the camera would get so hot that you can't put your hand on the top for more than a few seconds.

Are you sure this is not a power related issue? Are you using RED batteries or third party ones? I had to use block batteries for a few days and when they go down I would get weird problems like the camera was powering down and booting at the same time.

I don't understand why playback on the camera would be bad. As far as I know you are not altering the disk when you playback from the camera.
