Red has unfortunately reminded me again that they don't seem to be ready to be taken seriously as a vendor for PROFESSIONALS in the industry. I could rant for 2 more paragraphs, but in a nutshell, I suddenly needed a SSD card reader for a rental I have coming up. Placed the order early Monday, needing it by Thursday. No problem I figure, I paid for it online with a credit card, express shipping---no problem. I've done this for 15+ years with Arri, never an issue (as long as the item was in stock). Well, Red for some inexplicable reason has a 3-5 day "Processing Period" from the time they get your money. They also have the audacity to offer/charge for expedited shipping. How many people have been sucked into paying for Next Day shipping (in an emergency) only to realize that their item might be arriving in 4-6 days? This is beyond inexplicable, and only seems to confirm that Red doesn't understand the true nature of production, or at the very least business.

"Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..."

Count on it!

PS: I think you know it if you are a REDUSER. Plan B find another one at a rental facillity.

Patrick,
It's obviously been a while since I've ordered anything from Red. I have distinct memories of needing something ASAP, and getting it in a day or 2 max. This 3-5 day business will have to eventually go, if Red wants to be a source for camera accessories for rental houses or production companies. Maybe they should start farming the work out to third party dealers if they can't handle it themselves?

I've got to counter that my experience with Red Europe is excellent on this front. I needed a 2b-1b power cable and a dsmc quick release plate in a hurry recently - they shipped out the same day from Red Europe's warehouse on a Saturday delivery to my home address. Often I've been able to stop in at Pinewood and just pick up stocked items on the spot. Nothing whatsoever to complain about...

John, Your talking more logistics. I don't live in LA, so I can't just walk down to the corner Red Shop and pickup what I need.
I'm talking about company POLICY with this 3-5 days waiting business. It makes it very difficult for me to make MY customer happy, which means I'M not happy. I would hope Red would be open to fixing what I think is a pretty big problem. Anyone that's worked more than 10 minutes in this business knows, sometimes things are needed next day. It's not due to a lack of planning, nor is it anyone's fault, it's just the nature of a fluid sometimes unpredictable business. To get back on point BTW I was allowing THREE BUSINESS DAYS to get something that was IN STOCK, and I can't get it in my hands. If that's customer service, Red needs to join the 21st century.

Well in those situations I always try to contact someone at the company as soon as I know I need a rush delivery and figure out if it can be done or not. When there is a special case shipping and processing can be sped up but if they have no indication that it is a rush how could they know... considering the state of things these days I'm not surprised. A rush delivery button would be nice in a perfect world, problem is with red every customer would press it almost every time even if it wasn't a rush.

Call and ask is always my motto in these days of online stores, never hurts to try!

Squeaky Wheel

Squeaky Wheel

I truly hate being a squeaky wheel. Alway have, always will, and I rarely bother being one unless I truly expect better from someone. I have no idea if it was because of my rant here, or just a happy coincidence, but Red contacted me late yesterday to say that my reader was on the way (FedEx P1). Thank you Red! Please try and make THAT kind of turn around-service the norm, not the exception.

Wasn't this worth a phone call in the first place in stead of a rant on-line?

If it's something that's in stock at the store in Hollywood, and it's an emergency, maybe someone on reduser could go and buy it and overnight it to you if they're going past? Not ideal of course, for real emergencies...

Bob,

I recently tried to get replacement parts from Arri GB, up to two years ago I could order over the phone and they would deliver next day, or day after. Now I need to put the order into Munich, they get in touch, I pay, they send to to London, London sends it to me. Streamlining makes sense, but who for?
