2nd Test for our Red
I know there are a number of disturbing issues including, smoke consistency too much v too little.
Also Gods lighting company (Godalux..poss merger?) doesn't wait,so we shot 80 percent in 2 hrs before he left.
No, 1st AC,Grip,Spark/Gaffer/Caterers/Love
X2 1.2HMI's (1,000,000 hrs at least)that only worked or flickered when they felt like it.
No excuses it's just a test.

Thanks again Jim and the fellas.

From what I can tell it looks amazing. The problem is I can't seem to get the clip to play past the 8 second mark. I've tried both Quicktime and VLC player. It could just be my ancient computer...but I haven't had a problem playing any other clips previously. Any suggestions...I'd love to see it as the opening looks pretty darn close to stunning.

same here :( my MBP wont play it

The first 8 seconds look great. After that there is some error. I'm on WinXP and I tried using Quicktime Player, VLC Media Player and Nero Showtime. Same result on all three, stops after 8 seconds.

Works now...

This is easily one of the coolest things I've seen here :) Great stuff, dude! Looks perfect to me, no need for excuses. What lenses did you use? Anything else you can tell us about it?

Thank you for the compliment Brandon, its very kind.Regarding the look...what can i say, the lenses (Ana Lomo's) have an enormous contribution to the style we tried to achieve with those beautiful flares....maybe to much at times but i punched all the light sources i could from torches and mirrors down the barrel to really push the light response artifacts to the limits. The lenses are also
a lot more forgiving than most sphericals, offering their own inherent softness...a little like optical downsampling, for some subjects and detail
the camera offers to much, even with the huge pixel crop in ANA...but hey who is complaining.

more ana LOMO stuff. damn, I really wanna try those out :)

Holy Sh!t that look good!

Must have been a server problem with that last clip...it was only dowloading to around 5mb.

I am still a little unclear on shooting anamorphic on Red. Did you shoot this 4K 16x9 and then just crop the sides? Or did you shoot at a lower res?

thanks,
Omar

You can shoot 16x9, 2:1, or "ANA" which is the center square of the sensor... i think.

Thanks Omar..appreciated...yes,we shot B16 4K 16:9 ANA,Shot a rack leader for security and sizing, then re-scaled all the footage in Redcine using the 2:39 aspect generator and crop..easy.If we were shooting on a sensor 24.89mm x 18.66mm (4 perf S35) as opposed to 22.11mm x 12.44mm (80 percent of 3 perf) Red, then we could utilize the whole frame, but right now we are both reducing FOV and loosing a large amount of pixels...frustrating but still better than shooting S16mm.
Another issue is framing unsqeezed using the LCD, there are onboard monitors that will do the job,but are very expensive to buy right now, and it looks very unlikely Red will be following up soon due to some technical obstacles.

thanks

Phil

Thanks for the info Phil.

Just so I understand, after croping are you effectively at 2k res? Sorry still trying to wrap my mind around the best way to shoot anamorphic on Red.

If you look at the 4k 16:9 "ANA" generated markings in your EVF or LCD,then inside of those Square (ish) guides you have a W 2600 X H 2304 Pixel shooting area.

That of course does not apply if you make the assumption that a de-bayered image is pixels divided by 1.4 (Graham?).This personally i don't care, i am just grateful we are where we are right now, this is one amazing ride for us.

This is great stuff and you have the funniest avatar on Reduser. Classisc.

Nice work. Clean. Thanks for posting.
