My second time out with my newly acquired Red One MX. Shot 24fps 4k 2:1 and 120fps 2k 2:1. Nikon ais primes. Edit and grade in Premiere. The flashes you see are from a Broncolor Move strobe, as my buddy Mike Last was shooting stills at 1/2000 sec. high speed sync at the same time.

Good feedback. It was challenging filming the jumps as I couldn't see the rider from most of my filming positions as the ramps were obscuring him until he was actually in the air. This was mainly an exercise in learning the camera (haven't picked up a real motion camera since the early 90's).

I really liked this, something you might experiment is shooting in 2K 2:1 at 24 then ramping while he's in the air to 120fps. I did that on a shoot once, thought it was really awesome you could ramp in camera.

I'd considered ramping in camera, but for the type of shots we were getting it would have been impossible to anticipate when the ramp should begin. We often pre-rolled several minutes before the rider appeared in-frame as he started his ride deep in the woods where we couldn't see him. Could try to ramp it in post next time though, would probably work well enough.

Thanks Arthur. Yes, it was a fun shoot, except for when the LCD died (loose connector) and all of the sand that got into the equipment (thank goodness for my air compressor!). Still learning the system, have a long way to go before I'm proud of anything that I've shot on it. Need to work on getting more motion into the next shoot, more closeups, etc. For now, just having a bit of fun is all.
