Right now I use the HVX-200 and love it. A Red camera looks to be my next upgrade, maybe. I find my method of shooting is different then others and I want to know if Red Scarlet will work or if Red is the wrong camera for me.
My workflow: I have a visitors channel that runs in hotels that loops on a channel. Since I got the HVX-200 I shoot everything at 720p60. This allows me to scale down the footage and covert the p60 footage in After Effects to 60i 720 x 480. But I also can scale up to 1080i 29.97.
One benefit that I love shooting in this progressive way is I can apply Smooth Cam in Shake to remove any bumps in the camera or make hand held shots look like dolly shots, fast production.
I would like to use this workflow with the Scarlet if I can. But I would like to move to 1080p not 720p so I don't have to up res 720 to 1080. I would like to shoot 2K res at 16:9 aspect at 60 frames per second. This will give me a slightly larger frame to apply smooth cam filter to if needed, and allow me to crop and scale down to a SD 60i.
Doing this hotel show it would be very hard to go out and shoot all new footage for the show and schedule to shoot at 60 different restaurants, stores and so on. It has taken years to get all this footage and commercials made.
The problem I thought I read in a article that the Red camera only shoots at 24p. so even if I shoot at p60 that will just be slow motion since the cameras true frame rate is 24? is this correct?
thanks
