Posted in footage section but since it has some audio, I figure I would post it here as well.

I have a 2k snippet with audio recorded from RED. We placed the mic underneath her hair and I just noticed that in the beginning of the clip, she briefly touches the mic so there is some distortion. We were in a dance practice hall so there is some natural reverb in the room. I used a sennheiser wireless g2 system.

I did zero grading on this clip hence the extremely flat image.

I could tell that the lav mic couldn't "see" her mouth directly, but other than that the audio seemed fine--a little EQ and you'd be good to go. I didn't hear all the hiss that was in the other samples posted--perhaps your gain structure was different? Did the mic go thru a mixer and into the camera @ line level? If not, was the wireless RX sending mic level or line level audio to the camera? Thank you for this posting.

Thanks very much for posting this, tonaci. I'm very heartened that the loud hiss which has plagued the only other audio clips posted so far is absent here. Makes it more plausible to me, as a non-engineer, that the problem really can be fixed via firmware.

Can you comment on how you set the gain level in camera for this? Normalizing the clip added 16.8 dB, so you likely could have boosted gain a good 10dB and been safe. Did you simply plug and play or did you try to do any gain optimization beforehand? And am I correct that no outboard mixer or preamps of any kind were used?

While I'm very encouraged by this clip, what I don't like is the brittleness/distortion in the upper frequencies and harmonics, though I certainly am not sure how much of that owes to the use of a wireless mic and to the (file size) compression used to create the clip (16-Bit Little Endian? Not sure what that means in terms of alteration of original sound.)

It will be interesting to hear an uncompressed clip captured at optimum gain settings with a high quality wired mic. That's when I suspect we'll know how good the RED audio subsystem can really be.

ETA: Please excuse some of the redundant questions. It seems I cross-posted philiper in time.
