Hi everybody. I'm going to shoot a lenght in the next months. I'll shoot all the scenes at 4k rez. There's only one shoot I'll have to use 2k, because of 100fps. Only for this footage I have to edit in CS4 in a 2k timeline? Otherwise I could edit in 4k...

Right?

It's a pity, only for one footage, not edit in 4k, and have a final master at 4k...

Please, some suggestion.

Thanks

watch this video:

You can work in 2K and 4K...
just right mouse click on the footage in your timeline: "scale to frame size".
Thats it. If you want to switch from 2K to 4K... just add another Sequenz.
And drag and drop the 2k sequenz into the 4k timeline... "scale to frame size".
You don't have to copy the whole timeline... just the sequenze. if you
edit the 2K sequenze... you also change the 4K.

Thanks for the reply. This feature will be distribuited mainly via web... I know it's useless thinking about editing 4K... Also 2k is perfect... BUT... I'd like to have the choice. So my real question is: how is a clip (100fps) shooted at 2k upscaled to 4k?!?!?

Thanks

How? you mean.. "bicubic", "bilinear", or "nearest neighbor"?
That would be my questions... and I have no idea whats
the different between Premiere CS4.. "scale to frame size"
and After Effects... "scaling".

but maybe you want to know some completley different.

you can edit in wathever resolution you want and export in any resolution, also if you don't have a 4k monitor, theres no use in editing in 4k. Edit 2k or 1080p and output in 4k, but if it is for the web, there is really no use in editing at 4k.

Thanks everyone!
But maybe I didn't explain me well, my english isn't so good!...

I understand it's useless to edit in 4k, BUT if I'd like to have a final cut in 4k, how can I manage 2k footages (slomo 120 fps...)

All the footages will be 4k and only these slomo will be 2k... If I want a final cut in 4k, I'll have to zoom the slomo 2x????

I loose quality in these shots?

Thanks

Michele

Why do you want to output in 4K? Broadcast is 1080, 2K is all you can output for digital projection. 4K really doesn't have much practical use yet, except that if you shoot in 4K (and you should) you can then "pan and scan" to reframe your footage. We shot our new feature, DELIVERED, in 4K, but are editing in 1080. You never lose access to your 4K files, so if you ever want to output in 4K, you just drop your 1080 sequence into a new 4K sequence.
