Hi,
We have some footage shot at 2K / 25P 16:9 on a version 16 camera, with all footage copied onto a fast SCSI RAID on a 3GHz 8 core Mac Pro (4GB RAM, OS 10.5.4, QuickTime 7.5, FCP 6.0.4, 3.1.0 RED QuickTime codec). We are seeing a play back of about 8 frames a second of the F proxy in QT player and dropped frames in FCP, shouldn't this play back in real time? We don't have a problem with the P, M and H proxies, but would like to edit with the F codec without transcoding to ProRes. Anybody have any sugestions as to a) if I am expecting too much or b) any thing that may be wrong with my set up that is preventing playback.
Thanks for any help
Chris

You certainly have a good computer but maybe more ram is needed. Have you tried looking into Blackmagic-design HD Pro Link 2K monitoring card? I believe you need to use it in conjunction with another capture card. The company showed this product at NAB. The preview looked wonderful. Perhaps the hardware on the card takes care of the frame rates.
