I am wondering if 1920x1080 (the sequence/resolution we have been editing at, from 4K source material) would be just as good as 2K flat/scope for DCP? It seems that we might have to insert black bars either side though and this may potentially cause problems with some venues?

A great deal of time has been spent getting the framings right in the 1920x1080 timeline, so ideally we would like to retain the framings and not have to spend time adapting the material to a different frame size; however if creating a DCP in 2K flat/scope is definitely advisable it would be good to know.

Many thanks...

Thanks very much for the info.

I was also wondering if the difference between 1998 and 1920 will be noticeable on a cinema screen?

Technically, 1920x1080 is on the list of accepted 2K DCI material:

But as Mr. Mullen notes above, I believe you wind up with slight blanking on the top and bottom if it's not 1998x1080.

I don't see a problem with making a 1998 x 1080 2K 1.85 DCP by just putting some black borders on the sides of your 1920 x 1080 image. Not sure how you would label that though.

For labeling, instead of "F" you'd put in "F-178"

It's safer to make a 1998x1080 DCP with pillars than a 1920x1080 DCP.
