So, I am just wondering if anyone out there at the RED HQ can tell us if and/or when 2K 16x9 will be available as an aspect ration option...
I love shooting hi speed, but the 2.40:1 widescreen isn't always the best. To crop into that frame to get a 16x9 image wastes an awful lot of pixels.
At 2K 2.40:1 we have 2048x854, if we crop into that for a 16x9 frame and end up with 1518x854, we lose too much resolution.
Is there a reason why 2K 16x9 isn't an option?
Jarred,
Can't we have this option???

Johnny,
I just posted something about that as well. I think the highest resolution we can get from the camera is 5120x2700. So, in order to shoot a 16x9 image, you gotta set your frame guide to 16x9 and go with that. Your resolution at that point is 4800x2700.
I shot a really quick short film a month ago and after running everything through RED cine, I then noticed the small letter boxing on the 16x9 quick times. Oh well...

We will enable more format options in later firmware versions.
Playback is the current priority.

*BTW, screaming does not help get an answer. It sometimes does the opposite.

Jay.....I've just gone with using the guide frames in camera and then when in post i scale the image to 113% and get a 16:9 image.....I think that is the very Indian way to do things...and me having some indian blood it just makes sense......but seems to work...but would LOVE not to have to go into scaling in Premier and bypass that with just having a 5k 16:9 option...and i know it's coming....

Deanan: if that was directed at me....for CAPITALS....i guess it wasn't my intent to scream at RED.....i meant 5k 16:9 should be WAY BEFORE 2K 16:9.....IMO.....as i bet it would be.....That said, i'm crunching along no problems with scaling.....but look forward to the present i expect will soon come in one of next few firmware updates....only thing i have to scream about at moment is there is not enough f$%kng time in the day to get everything on my plate done....

**i see it in OP's header....capitals....funny nowadays we can presume expressions with words....albeit i screw it up all the time with my punctuation, spelling and capitalizing....

This is where 3k could be nice.

Also, I thunk that the 300fps fad will fade soon. The first time I shot high speed film I had the same kind of love affair but soon that will wear off a bit.

4k 150 can show you a dragster tire contorting. It's life at five times realtime.

I wish 16:9 would go away.

I'd lioe to see the newer delivery formats be:

4k 2:1
4k 3:2
4k 2.40:1

16:9 is one of this compromise formats. Make it decidedly wide or square.

@Deanan

When playback is enabled will it be at all resolutions and formats?

I LOVE 2:1 & 2.4: 1.....but doubt TV will change ANYTIME soon with those delivery options.

The all caps wasn't meant as screaming. Thought it would be bold faced type, but I guess that goes bold after people reply to a thread.

Just glad to know it's on the list.

Me scream? C'mon, I'm going to shoot my nephew's peewee football game with my Epic M...the only screaming from me will be if he misses a tackle or fumbles the ball...
