  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

25-250 Angenieux Night Test

Does anyone know where to get an arri mount adapted to a PL mount? Is there any adapters to purchase?

many different ones, from 200-500 typically.

if you order more, you will even get better prices.

CJ what about trying a candle-lit scene with only candles? Maybe five or six candles on the table in front of a subject? 1000ASA?

Eh... frankly after getting a set of standard primes, I can't really see using the Angenieux much, so I'm not sure how much more testing I'll do with it.

You'd want to fake a candle lit scene with this lens... and the noise would be too much at 1000ASA.

I hear you...
It will be awhile before I can entertain the thought
of owning a decent prime set. I am waiting to see how
the RED primes look. I have a few beater PL zooms
that will get me going and then will rent
when need be.
Thanks

Mine is about 5.5 lbs. It has no focus or zoom gears.
I am still getting the Nikon mount.
I also have a 20-120 Angenieux - it is a beast.
No hand holding that sucker.

I don't know...
I bought the lens with the mount on it.
It screws on. I have not found
another mount like it.....
Only time will tell if it work on the RED.

Yeah, I was wondering if you could do a candlelit test with a fast prime.

I've been dying to see that. If you can do it, can you post the footage at 1080p so we can see the noise?

Here is the King of all 25-250mm lenses and it's about Rank Optics Taylor-Hobson Cooke Cine Varotal T4
even if Stephen is trying all the time to degrade this lens preformance without ANY own scientific test!!! :clown2:

Hi There,

If you want to do a scientific test just pull focus and see it breathe. Its not the F2.8 Superman Lens that you claimed. It does not look anything like the picture you posted. It was always very clear what lens you had bought.

Out of interest when did I try to degrade the performance of the MK1 Cooke, it's an ideal beauty lens, horses for courses.

Stephen

EDIT If you put your lens on a Projector take a look at what happens about 170mm

Hi Chuck,

This is what happened to my 25-250

Well I'll have you know that this test led me to hunt down and buy one myself! It's on its way to me now. Even though I own the Red zoom, I'm really looking forward to how this lens looks for the right project.

I really liked the look from CJ's test as well.

Shawn, if you don't mind me asking, were did you buy from and did you get as good a deal as CJ got?

I bought mine on eBay, it hasn't come yet.

CJ must have bought a long time ago, because I've been hunting around and it is NOT a $700 lens anymore. Most places it's $1300-$1500 plus a fee to convert to PL mount.

I got mine for just under $900 with PL mount already on it.

Definately a good deal. I just popped on to visualproducts today and it was up to $1500. I need to track one of these down myself.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing some of your tests with it.

Got mine from Visual Products. It came in a week ago. Great lens. Some vignetting here and there, but for an old vintage lens, it's seriously not bad.

Oh wow! You bought that $1500 one from them? Did you pay them to convert it for you to PL? How much was it? I emailed them and asked them how much to convert and they never replied to my email.
