  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

25-250 Angenieux Night Test

Oh wow! You bought that $1500 one from them? Did you pay them to convert it for you to PL? How much was it? I emailed them and asked them how much to convert and they never replied to my email.

Yeah, I did. I bought the lens, PL Conversion and a Pelican case for it all for $1850. It took about a week to get it from them cause they cleaned it for me.

Cool! Post footage!

Lenses sold - thanks to all that looked:

Boys,

I got one of those sitting around with a PL mount already on it.
The zoom is a little sticky but otherwise appears to be in good shape.
I was thinking of going to e-bay with it but I have not had the time
to mess with it.
I do mostly editing and had entertained the thought of getting a RED but
I just cannot do it right now.
PM if you want to see some photos.
Ohhh, how much?? - I bought it for $800 last year when I was entertaining
the thought of getting a RED.....the first $750 gets it....
I can send you some of my current e-bay listings and you can see
my 100% approval with 192 feedbacks.....
I also have an Angenieux 20-120 PL mount. This lens is in great condition. This has an arri lens support and zoom and focus gears.
I bought it for $1250. The first $1200 gets it.

i'll take the whole angenieux pkg, if it's not already spoken for...email sent--if you didn't get the e-mail, shoot me one at planete@comcast.net and we'll talk....

I love the original 25-250 even with all its problems. The lens has a great organic look. First lens that comes to my mind when thinking of shooting an Epic period film. Some people are into medical lenses... caring about sharpness, contrast, CA, etc. When I look at a lens the first thing that comes to my mind is look... and these look great. Paired with the RED they are also sharp enough. I know Stephen has derided even the 20-120mm Angeneiux which is much sharper than the 25-250. I say take a look at these lenses yourself and judge based on your own aesthetic/technical requirements.

I really liked the look of the old Angie 25-250 zoom on the RED One. Has anybody tried this on the EPIC? How about the OP? Thanks

I have! It objectionally vignettes up to about 32mm, but them is useable after that. There is still a visible vignette/falloff, but I think it looks cool.

Thanks Shawn. Yeah, I threw mine up on my lens test projector and could see the vignetting at the ends. Post some footage when you get a chance.

...We shot @ 500ASA with the Angenieux 25-250 f3.9 (pre-HR/HP).

I own a nice example that was properly maintained by its previous owner. Of course it is not a modern lens, but I like the look, and used it quite a bit a few years ago on the RED One for a indie feature (still in editing). There is some footage at www.cinescenes.com. Around the time I got it, I remember reading on a blog somewhere that it has two soft points: 75mm and 150mm. The writer also mentioned taking the lens apart and reversing one of the elements which apparently improved the sharpness. I think these older lenses respond gracefully to applying unsharp mask.

Also when you close focus you will get heavy vignetting on an epic. I think the image is quite beautiful, not sharp my any means. Also 3.9, you never want to go there, I don't care how soft you like the image. It is easy to confuse the focus with the zoom on this lens. JK...
