  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

24hr RED film competition anyone?

sounds like a great load of fun to me.

friday to monday sounds REAL good.

I am in.

Time: Last week of November so that everyone gets their cast, crew, equipment right on and ready.
Prizes: Adobe Production Studio CS4 win/mac available for download. (suggesting...)

This sounds excellent to me. As with most other competitions of this sort there should be an object or line that gets announced just before the shoot begins that we have to include.

I'd be up for it. For judging I suggest a peoples choice for the top 10 (or 5 if there isn't that many entries) as voted for on Vuze. And then a few folks from the Red team judge the winner, runner up and third place from the select. Maybe Jim and Co. would welcome the respite! Prize wise... Perhaps a filmout version for the winner to be shown or sent around the shortfilm festival scene??? Anyway sounds like fun, count me in.

Everyone will be given a quote on the day the competition starts along with the other paramaters. You will be given a solid date for the competition at least one week before to gather your cast & crew.
Hopefully this will allow everyone enough time to get prepared. End of this month might be a bit pushing it but I'm thinking second week of December as a soft date right now.

Timeline wise I'm down for pretty much anything, so December, Januaray, don't matter. I'll throw my hat in the ring for the 72 / fri - mon timespan, a good amount to test out red and red turnaround. In terms of prize i think that the filmouts a pretty rad thing to do for sure, or even, dare I say, the prize is pride of making a red short film in 72 hours  I can try to follow up with some adobe connections and see where that goes.

48 hour would actually be really fun, if for no other reason it would answer a lot about the post process. I believe you could establish a workflow that would actually be very quick in terms of editing. With a combination of a Mac, FCP, Clipfinder, and a fairly fast RAID, you could theoretically edit and color time the film in that deadline. The key would be to have your story not rely on a lot of effects and more on creative editing and in-camera effects.

Of course, 72 hours would be more reasonable and a bit more practical for the PC crowd.

My guess is that folks at Red will be very busy after November 13th, as if they're not already. But would be cool to have them judge.

Great idea Mike!

I am pleased to announce that Cineform has very graciously offered one of our winners a copy of their choice of Neo 4K (Mac) or Prospect 4K (Windows) as part of the prize pool! They have also offered to make their software available to utilize before and during the competition to help aid any workflow concerns some of you may have. I am very excited to have Cineform on board to support our upcoming Film Competition and would like to send a BIG public thank you to David Taylor and his remarkable team for making this happen!

I will be making other sponsorship announcements shortly as they evolve. You guys are gonna be stoked! When I have all the basic requirements and solid dates for the competition down (which I hope to have by early next week) I will make a new thread with everything you need to know to get prepared.

Keep up the suggestions and tell your friends to get ready!!!

Sounds awesome!

Maybe wait till after Xmas? Early Jan? Many us are really booked up in Dec.

Just a thought.

BTW, I could really use a copy of Prospect 4K!!! :) Word to Cineform for stepping up.

And some of us are really booked up at the beginning of the year. :)

A December timeframe might be best for me, although that's quickly starting to disappear as well. Hopefully whatever dates get selected I'll be able to participate. I'm looking forward to it.

Tom, I agree, I'd love to check out Cinform's new stuff.

Update - Things are beginning to move along quite nicely in formalizing all the details for our competition. Along with Cineform, I am pleased to announce that Monkey Extract has officially become a sponsor and will be offering a copy of their software to one of our winners! Thank you for your support!

Also, we are in the process of getting the website active and officially announcing all the paramaters of the event including official dates. The previous 2nd week in December date may be pushed until January but we are still working out those details. If I can still make it happen in that original timeframe that's what I am shooting for.

I have had a lot of positive feedback so far on this event and have taken many of your suggestions into account. Please keep up the suggestions as it can only help to improve the challenge for everyone.
Thanks for your support,
Mike
