Wanted to get opinions out there if folks will be shooting 24 or 23.98 for long-form features and docs. Let's say a film-out is not required, but don't want to foul it up if it comes up later. Thoughts?

We shoot everything 23.98 unless we are mixing RED with 35mm like we did with JUMPER.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter - you can play back 23.98 at 24 and 24 at 23.98 - it's a frame sequence. Most field mixer/audio engineers can record for either timebase.

The reason we always default to 23.98 is that it is the "common ground" with audio facilities (even though they can "pull up" and "pull down") and by adding a pulldown to 23.98 you are ready for HDTV 1080i delivery.

It just an easier pipeline for us - but it is really not rocket science to work in 24 either.

23.98 all the way - until film out. My 2 cents.

Good stuff. Keep it coming and thanks!
