With 24 hours to go... anyone having thoughts on what Jim & Co is going to release?

What do you all think of Scarlett being a stereoscopic 2K + 2K Camera? That could certainly be an interesting release by RED. Jumping onto stereoscopic cinematography in its (relative) infancy by coming out with a native stereo camera.

I'm hanging out for affordable 4K monitors and projectors -- oh and Build 16.

I'm still frothing over that post that Jannard made a few months ago that went along the lines of 'okay Sony have officially pissed me off, wait for NAB'...

24 hours to go! This is almost as exciting as a Steve Jobs keynote!

Scarlet
4k monitor
4k projector (just to piss Sony off)
Red Tripod/Mattebox/and other accessories.

Hopefully an announcement of an ever-expanding group of professional partners (ie Cineform) to further iron-out the post production workflow.

Red Primes.

:greedy:

I'm thinking about a RED Video Card...

There is no Apple-Like Graphiccard out there, that supports 4k Resolution, so why not the RED Card? ;)

and it maybe supports 4k REDCODE rendering...

RED 4K projector + special partnership offers to cinema exhibitors to help speed up adoption of DC.

4K monitor of course (maybe back projection?).

That sounds more Jannardesque than any other suggestion I've heard.

Now look what you've done. You've gotten me excited about speculation. I don't do that.

I doubt anyone was behind this Oakley "commercial"...

I would not even rate this a "commercial" nor a "viral", just some beep-beep-beepbeepbeeeeep-beep.

'nuff said :)

1. Scarlet

2. A stand alone On-Set automated downloading station

3. 4K Display/Projector technology

4. A Native 4K optical format suitable for the home DVD or Cinema markets based on RED Native code and ripe for licensing to Sony, Panasonic and Nintendo, thus bringing 4K to the home faster.

5. REDIT - a turnkey 4K finishing suite for Post houses.

6. A proprietary remote head that feeds metadata into 3d programs for match-moving.

7. Pana4K (built by Red, Panavision branded and built for PV mount glass)

8. Redsetta Stone™ RED RAW in, to any format out. A blackbox that hooks up to the deck of your choice.

9. RED RAID- a raid for RED.

10. RED STAR - a Satellite uplink that feeds your 4K film to any theatre in the world with a RED STAR downlink in realtime.

OK, some of these may have to wait till next year...

So that's an interesting thought. Blu-Ray holds way more data than needed for 2 hours of HD, is there any technical reason it couldn't hold a 4K format for those of us with (the to-be-announced-in-24-hours) Red home projector?

The only reason I don't see this happening is that everyone is just now settling in with their HD flatscreens and being happy that this time the better format won the format war, the last thing the average consumer will want to hear is "but now it's time to buy a 4K television cause we got more pixels!"

If a Blu-Ray could hold an HD and 4K version of the same movie on one disk then they could put those out and people could play it at the resolution their hardware supports, but I don't know if 50 GB is gonna fit all that.

Much as I like and admire Jim, I think he will stay comfortably out of the video format war. Making a format is horribly complex and requires the support of an entire industry, the same industry Jim's competing with ferociously.

I don't think Sony's going to take Jim's ideas to heart, however great they may be :-).

I'm not even going to speculate on how much his projector will be. My head says he'll go for about $20k and my heart wants to see him go into the consumer market with $5k. But I have a feeling he's not going there since it would take a huge amount of money just to get his brand noticed.

WE know and love his brand ... it would be immensely expensive for the general public to know about it.

And then he would have to have a camera for them, and he's already told us Scarlet is still a professional unit.
