  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

24 DP, Rodney Charters, & his Red experiences

Thanks Denise!

A real "production" guy.
Right to the point.

I'm sure that, with some more time with the camera, he will be able to extract very clean images at 500 ISO with proper curves and post work.

We launched this site in May this year and are adding to it constantly. I'd appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

I'm enjoying what I'm seeing of the show, but the playback for me has been horrible. It's not possible to advance the playhead. I went out for some errands and let the video play to the end while I was gone so I could watch it smoothly from the cache when I got home, but when I came back to watch it the program started streaming from the beginning again. So caching isn't working as well as it should - which will waste server bandwidth.

I went over to apple and watched some trailers to verify the problem was not my cable connection. Everything there played perfectly.

I'd think seriously about changing the player or getting another streaming server service or offering a QT download of the episodes. Right now playback is unusable for me.

Also I forgot to say that Rodney Charters, also any other DP,

and any of us the RED Users can soon easy use and swap between any

PL, Panavision, Canon EF (Birger), Nikon F, Leica-M, Leica-R, Contax/Yashica, B4,etc... lenses.

How?

With a little help from IMS for RED, the universal lens mount.

Also Rodney Charters pointed out the need of fast lenses like the Master Primes...

I would add that with this choice of still lenses below we would get almost very close fast lens set to the Master Primes:

- 21 mm LEICA SUMMILUX-M 21 mm f/1.4 ASPH (Leica-M IMS for RED)

- 24 mm LEICA SUMMILUX-M 24 mm f/1.4 ASPH (Leica-M IMS for RED)

- 28 mm Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM (hopefully soon upcoming Birger IMS for RED)

- 35 mm Voigtländer Nokton 35 mm f/1.2 (39 to Leica-M IMS for RED) >> fast as Zeiss Master Prime 35 mm

- 50 mm LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50 mm f/0.95 ASPH (Leica-M IMS for RED) >> even faster than Zeiss Master Prome 50 mm

- 85 mm Canon EF 85mm f/1.2 L USM II (hopefully soon upcoming Birger IMS for RED)

This full lens set (21mm to 85mm) you could get new for about the same price as just one new lens from the Master Primes.

Don't forget that all those are for the full 35mm film: 24 x 36 mm

and that Mysterium has a sensor about 1.6x smaller than 35mm film (photo).

So you will always shoot with the sharpest part that is a center of each lens.

"think seriously about changing the player or getting another streaming server service "

on a PC you can right click in the player and go to settings .. set how much data you allow their web site to store on your hard drive .. the default is very low ? think around 10k ... i changed it to 10mgs ... went away for 20 min and when i returned it played the whole 23 min with no problems ...

Nice tip Donatello. Works on OSX too! Not sure if that did it, but it's playing much better now. Could be other factors slowed it down earlier for me.

Awesome interview... great job reel-show... I'm loving the content you guys are bringing. Found out about you guys on CML and have been tuned in since.

Quite likely, a newsletter to over 40,000 people is in the process of being sent about this report so traffic has been extremely high (as well as the large numbers of redusers and others watching) and the server is having to work much harder than usual. Thanks to Donatello for the tip.

Thanks for all your nice comments. If there are any pieces of kit/software that you'd to see more about, let us know and we'll endeavour to cover them in future reports.

All the best
