I'm thinking about upgrading my workstations monitors. Currently I'm using a 27" Apple Cinema Display & a 24" ASUS PA 248q for the GUI on my editing/color apps. In premiere I will use my 24" ASUS as a "reference" monitor via the Decklink Mini Monitor Card on the HDMI port. I'm curious if anyone us using a 21:9 monitor instead of two GUI monitors. I usually work in Premiere Pro, Resolve, and some After Effects - I also do still photography so I'm in Lightroom 90% of the time when doing stills.

Any input would be great - currently looking at the LG 34U87C

I use a Dell 34" curved for AE, Resolve and a bit of Premiere and its perfect. More resolution than 2 x 24" displays with a smaller footprint and no bezel to worry about. Its so wide that I don't feel the need to stretch the timeline all the way from the left side to the right, so I can still have a very tall Project panel or Effect Controls in AE, which is very useful. The curve is great, I don't notice it normally but I think if it weren't curved I'd be a bit concerned with some colour shift in the corners.

I upgraded recently to the Acer X34 Predator and I can't see myself going back! Here are some photos of my setup:

A lot of real estate for editing:

Has a cleaner look to the space IMO:

Premiere and AE on a 21:9 monitor is a big hell yes! Resolve on the same monitor, is a big hell no!

Unless you have a very specific need for 21:9, you will actually be better served by a regular 16x9 monitor.

21:9 makes sense for gaming, but it doesn't make much sense for post production. You are essentially paying more for less screen real estate - 3440x1440 vs 3840x2160.

So on a UHD 16x9 monitor not only would that timeline be 400pixels wider but the extra vertical resolution would allow the viewers to be scaled up, filling that wasted space on the sides.

Also more importantly, 3840x2160 allows you to preview a UHD deliverable at 1:1 and a 1080p deliverable with a neat 2x scale up, both without pillerboxing.
