I just upgraded my RED 759 to 21.3.2 from 20.1.6 and everything is jacked and by that I mean I have no picture whatsoever. I have never had a problem upgrading before but I cannot blackshade and my sensor shows absolutely nothing with lights shined into it. A lot of the buttons don't work either. I am going back to 20.1.6. Hopefully that fixes it. Anyone else?

Ok with the 20.1.6?
Or you still have some problems?

With each new firmware release, it seems there's always a report such as this. I'm thinking it's a hardware issue more than firmware, as Stuart suggested in that other thread. Not that it's any comfort to those having problems...

I'm going to upgrade mine here in just a bit. If it blows up, so be it.

I wonder is some of these reports could be due to the firmware being corrupted at download or transferring to CF card? I would think the camera runs a checksum and there should at least still be the primary boot loader to load new firmware if a bad one gets installed. Hmmm... So that shouldn't be it, but possible maybe?

21.3.2 error

21.3.2 error

i tried it about 5 different times with multiple downloads, multiple CF or SD cards multiple restarts of the camera. nothing works. went back to 20 and everything works fine. like I said, I've never had a problem with any builds in the past.

yeah, I was uploading to the final beta 21...about 5 hours before the release of 21 and had a problem. My camera wouldn't boot back up. Spoke to RED and they said to send it in. They received the camera yesterday and started looking into it. Hopefully I get the camera back tomorrow or Monday since I start shooting a feature on the 28th. Would be nice to shoot some tests since we want to use the 4.5K widescreen mode...

Build 21 v21.3.2

Build 21 v21.3.2

Update: We are investigating these reports, and until we have a conclusion, have pulled Build 21 v21.3.2 as an official release.

Build 20 v20.1.6 is the current official release, and Build 21 v21.3.1 is available as a Beta release for those who want to shoot in 4.5K.

This is not a problem that showed up during Beta test, and the number of reports are low, but we need to understand the root cause.

We appreciate your support and patience if it has affected you in any way.

I updated two cameras, and shot on one all day yesterday...no problem.

BUT, a third camera I'm trying to upgrade today is being "affected" and not taking to this v21.3.2

Following the upgrade steps, I got to "O.K. Cycle Power" and shut down the camera, waited and rebooted ...except the "booting..." lasted interminably.

I held the power button down to shut off and try again, then I got a flashing LCD panel.

Now I've loaded 20.1.6 on a different CF card and still the camera is hanging on the boot screen/step.

Time for a trouble ticket?

Also, I don't understand in the instructions for upgrading how one is supposed to "Format a CF card using Build 16, 17, or 18." before copying the Upgrade folder to the card, if you don't have any camera lying around running that build?

CF card format

CF card format

I don't understand in the instructions for upgrading how one is supposed to "Format a CF card using Build 16, 17, or 18." before copying the Upgrade folder to the card, if you don't have any camera lying around running that build?

That's my error. Apologies for that. A better phrasing would be "Format a CF card using Build 16 or later"

i.e. you must not format the CF with Build 15 or earlier.

I've got no problem at all so far.
Running on 3303.
Hope it helps...Cheers ;)

i upgraded to build 21 with the first version of b21 21.0.0 on 9/12/09 and have been rocking it ever since, we have done 16 jobs, 24 shoot days and 16 prep days for a total of 40 commercial shoot days with that build, recently upgraded to 21.3.1.and did the last two jobs with 21.3.1 and we have not had any errors.

dino

upgraded every beta red brought out in the last fine red years.
all worked fine since the first second.

downgrading to a final will not work?

by the way dino g
paula abdul should do a new song with red:)
we write the music you do the shooting
best ones from here

I upgraded to 21.3.2 and all seemed well. However, I have gone back to build 21.3.1 beta release since RED felt it necessary to remove the B21 release while they investigate these errors. :/

I shot all this week with build 21.3.1 in pretty challenging conditions and the camera behaved flawlessly.
21.1 was a little buggy but all seems fine since upgrading to 21.3.

edit: just realized that everybody's talking about 21.3.2 and not 21.3.1. I guess B21 came out of beta while I was out of the country on the shoot. Never mind.

We've had both our cameras shooting B21 since it was released,

(switching back to B20 for the 2 or 3 jobs where the edit wasnt handled by ourselves).

Had no Problems whatsoever.

I was told 4 camera in and around moscow are in a black out after the upgrade.

Ouch. I'm a total firmware whore when it comes to consumer electronics, but reading this thread leads me to think I need to reign that obsession in as far as R1 is concerned.
