  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

2023 Red One Owners... Share A Picture Of Your Rig

I plan on putting up some pics of my rig over the years. I think RU has some requirement where you have to host the pic
for it to be uploaded and I have to figure that out.

On a somewhat related note, I bought a digital copy of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011 Fincher version) which was shot on both R1MX and RED Epic.
There was a lot of behind the scenes segments showing the R1MX in action that was nice to watch.

Interesting to also see how much Fincher cropped into the 4K frame to accommodate reframing, stabilization, etc.

Definitely worth a look.

Will try to get some pics up of my R1MX. Happy to say my rig will be 15 years old in a couple of weeks
and I used it on a shoot as recently as a few weeks ago.

I mean no disrespect to anyone here, but the Red ONE should have been retired a long time ago. There is no point in it. You have the Scarlet MX at the very low end, and that camera is more practical in every way. Why exactly would you use a Red ONE today?

Upload the image as an "attachment" and then in the attachment option at the bottom of the frame, you can choose small, medium, large to paste it wherever your cursor is in the text frame.

And if you want your inages visible to those not signed in, Flickr has a link option that will display the image here, and it has size options as well.

RED One MX still makes an aesthetically pleasing image that can be easily pushed around in post.
At 12bit 4K RAW It still satisfies higher end technical requirements. It also has the same sensor as a Scarlet MX.
Why not?
Not trying to be adversarial as I appreciate your viewpoint. Just laying out the basics of my opinion.

I agree with you Brian, A camera (esp if you are using it for personal projects) never HAS TO BE retired. You can use whatever you want and ironically, I know some people still getting paid work with the RED ONE in the indie music video community. The Red One is still a very viable camera that makes an excellent and technically relevant image, regardless of your personal opinion Karim.

Well before this thread got hijacked by people wondering why some of us still create with the red one, i am asking again....

Feel free to share pictures of your Red One rig. Would love to see all of your different builds.

Here's a few shots of my RED One over the years.

Brian awesome pics! Pretty cool seeing a red one working with a komodo. Goes to show you how relevant its image still is.

Today also marks 15 years ago that I received my RED One.

R1MX and Komodo can work well together provided you help them meet in the middle.

Hi Hi !

Mohamed Ali from Belgium, I bought this monster last February and from the first derushing I was impressed by the rendering of the image! I work in a professional way with a Canon C70 (one man band) but I'm looking for something more "bizarre" to document the life of my children. And I really wasn't disappointed.

THE problem was the weight... given that I'm not a fan of shooting on a tripod I quickly realized that I was going to suffer on outings longer than a play session in the park... so shame on me I tried to sell my camera... then one morning I said to myself "no!" I tried to make the rig as compact and manageable as possible and I think I've come up with something "Walk and Gun"...

Hey Mohamed,

For shooting the camera tucked to the side and on the hip the handgrip placement looks like it could work well.
Definitely something for me to look into.

Hello!

Yes, for the moment it gives me satisfaction and makes me turn on the camera more often... the part where the handles are fixed can be moved forwards or backwards depending on the weight of the lens or the battery.

i just picked up a Red One for a ridiculous price, less than my blackmagic 4k pocket camera. I already own an Epic but i love the image i've seen from these Red Ones, looking fwd to collecting it and will post some images when i get it all set up;
