Surrounded by my favorite gear - RED Scarlet-X kitted with Canon's EF 800mm f/5.6L lens (protected by Baader AstroSolar Filter), sitting on top of GearNex geared tracking head...

Went through freezing 20th on Mt. Fuji facing the worst weather conditions to shoot the Eclipse. Finally given up and decided to race on the highway towards where I though clear skies could be... 5 min before the moon completely entered the sun I pulled over - set up my camera and long behold - the skies opened up just in time for me to film the peak...:

Looks awesome, do you have a link to the video?

Peter that looks awesome. I tried to attempt the same think but the damn clouds got in the way.

That does not look half bad! The clouds do add a lot of mood to the event. I continued to film the second half of the Eclipse in such a conditions - the sun kept popping in and out of the clouds - and I actually like it that way...
Did You use any solar filter on your lens? I have mailed Jarred prior this event to confirm whether I could damage the sensor and he replied that I need to get a proper solar filter - which I did. Ironically the more telephoto your lens is - the less you have to worried about any potential damage as the energy of the sun is spread across much larger portion of the sensor. It is the wide angle lenses that people need to worry about... But tracking the sun with the 800mm was no fun either - the sun would run through the frame in only few seconds...

Very cool work, Peter. Cant wait to see the video!

Jacob, that was a very cool video! It kinda reminds me of Batman Begins.
