1. Epic shipping.

As I said long ago that expecting EPIC would start to ship after NAB 2011.

2. Scarlet shipping.

Right after EPIC that means Summer 2011.

3. New Color Science.

For my point of view the color is the most important thing at one digital camera system even more than the resolution.

Hopefully RED will continue to improve NCS with "mismatching greens in Bayer filtration", finding always better algorithm to "spin" RGB

in a right direction that we can get best quality of image color possible. If this happen with EPIC/Scarlet thing in 2011 then RED will have very

high demand for cameras in years to come and also pretty much the best place in the history of digital cinema acquisition.

I'd like to think it will not take that long. Although, after seeing what happened to the Bomb EVF, I cannot say you are wrong.

I am also concerned about the availability of needed modules. Such as the PRO-I/O module.. This will be very important. Also no talk of the REDMote as of yet.

And more pricing questions than I can imagine.

We're closer, and I am happy, but there is a very long way to go yet.. I am HOPEFUL that since the EPICS are being made in the US, things may move faster than I am expecting.

- Epic ships after NAB, closer to summer.

- Red One mx is discontinued

- Fixed lens Scarlett replaces MX with 3k max resolution, ships in November

- Red announces FF Scarlett to replace discontinued MX, shipping 2012

- With R1 retired entire RED system is now modular.

- 2/3 inch Scarlett program us scrapped in favor of moving toward a professional market and system

- Unprecedented number of Feature films are shot on r3d over film or other digital platforms.

I hoped for a January roll-out, waiting until the Summer or later would be a major disappointment.

All it's up to EPIC shipping date because right after that Scarlet will arrive.

Let's make fingers crossed and wait.

RED PRESS PAGE said:
As of October 1st, 2010, these 3 cameras are still in development, with a target for the first launch, Scarlet 2/3 Fixed, being early 2011

Says early 2011 for Scarlet 8x Fixed here: http://www.red.com/press

I say Epic in 2010 or very early 2011 and Scarlet 8x Fixed in Q1 2011.

I think you're spot on.

But my fear is that there will be back order problems with accessories.

Need to get through stage 2 and 3 first and please the customers who have money down.

I don't know anything about Scarlet. Does anyone have a deposit on a Scarlet?

JANUARY 2011 - EPIC Stage 2 Shipping in bulk, a few hundred cameras shipping in 2010.
NAB 2011 - EPIC Stage 3 Shipping
AUGUST 2011 - EPIC Stage 3.5 Shipping
NOVEMBER 2011 - EPIC Stage 4

JULY 2011 - Scarlet 2/3" shipping (won't fulfill orders until 2012)
NOVEMBER 2011 - S35 Scarlet Production Announced.
NAB 2012 SCARLET S35 shipping.

I'm pinning most of this on part suppliers and the in ability to ramp production and sales. I would love if RED moved to resellers or hired a serious supply chain manager to fix the biggest problem so far, which is sales and shipment and order fulfillment.

I strongly hope that Red will decide to work on a better camera "color Wise" ..

grade RED footage take twice the time of grade others cameras like alexa , F35 and Film ...

REDColor etc...is not really an improvements to me ...just boost saturation ..teh primary colors are quite never clean on Red images...

Whoa there, Thomas!

A few hundred Epics shipping in 2010? It's almost 2011 now, and they just announced ordering the 18,000 different parts its going to take to make them! If the parts all arrived tomorrow they could scarcely be expected to get 200 cameras out the door by December 31st!

There's no way there will be a "few hundred Epics" before March, and I think that's what Jim was telling us with that post. I would tend to agree with those who believe it won't really get moving until after NAB. Bottom line. . . Epic will get here when it gets here.

For the record, I'm predicting the low end Scarlets will never arrive at all. There probably just isn't enough margin in those cameras to successfully compete with the likes of Canon and Sony and their super thin margin supply chains. Consumer electronics are a veritable corporate graveyard, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Jim more or less tipped his hand on this one, as well, with his "what does professional mean to you post?"

Maybe, but I sort of feel the opposite -- the smaller 2/3" Scarlet can be sold to the professional community as sort of a digital Eyemo, something like a DSLR or Sony EX3 but better, or something optimized for 3D Steadicam work... it's the higher-end Scarlets that seem a bit harder to justify, they just seem like Epics with a few of the features not added, to get to a lower selling price. I know people are looking forward to the S35 Scarlet because it is more affordable than the S35 Epic, but I tend to feel that there should be a wider gap between the two models or else it starts to be something like the difference between a ARRI 535A and 535B, unless that is the intention. Otherwise, I feel that the S35 Scarlet should be even more stripped down and physically smaller and simpler to make it clearly different from an Epic.

I understand where you're coming from there, David. . . I have never really understood why they would want a Scarlet S35 and the Epic S35 out at the same time. Since I seldom. . . okay. . . never. . . use all the bells and whistles on our RED Ones, I would be more than likely to want a S35 Scarlet than an Epic if the image quality was essentially identical. The only reason I'd really want an Epic would be just to say I owned an Epic!

Stephen

I think the Scarlet 2/3" is the perfect replacement for the F900, Varicam, etc cameras. It will blow away the EX3 market. It won't stop the dSLR cameras however because of the sensor size.

I think RED will work extra hard to ramp up at least 100, maybe 200 Epics by January 2011.

Red Ray is equally important as epic i believe. if not more so given R1 MX is so good.
