I went to the Gold Cup semis this year at Soldier Field and yes, there were DEFINITELY more Mexican fans than US fans... those were great matches !

As much as very few believe in Argentina after this qualification near fiasco, in Argentina change always unfolds in dramatic fashion.

Barely qualifying seems to fit the bill just right.

same could be said about Rooney and Torres on any given day ....messie is maybe the best but has also the best support in his current club. mascherano hasn't been in the best form and either has the squad for that matter with no real consistency but well see if maradona can make history once again .my fav Argie player at the moment is insua .

messi scores at barcelona because he is not forced to run around in the center, he plays as right winger and you shouldnt forget that Dani Alves is playing behind him and is one of the best right defenders in the world, so he has freedom to move forward.
And Inieasta and Xavi in the Center in Combo with Imbrahimovic in the Center of Attack are a different caliber...i see no comparable players at the argentinian Squad.
And messi tends to suck in the argentinian team. I wish they will win though!

Dont forget the Germans. Its too long ago they did win...

That stat is a bit pointless given this tournament is being played in Africa for the first time and also because it is a winter tournament the conditions will be much more comfortable for the northern European teams than the usual searing heat of summer.

Felipe, thought you might like this video from CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals this last summer at Soldier Field. Sorry about my hand going in front of the camera but when the guy who scored came to celebrate right in front of us we got showered with beer!

Game was 0-0 until they scored this goal in the 87th minute. Costa Rica answered almost immediately and it went to a shootout with Mex prevailing. Great match!

only brasil is more succesfull, and they dont have a world class forward this time.

Just to clarify, that post was me doing my heartfelt best compliment to a powerful soccer force. I can't help but hurt when I remember the Italy 90 final, but I understand my emotions and move forward in harmony with the global sentiment. : )

We'll have to wait and see about Messi, and about the Argentine synergy... let's just hope we have one close to this one.

To be perfectly honest, I'll be happy if we just do OK... I just don't want to suffer the agony of an early departure.
