1)A friend just got in his forged weapon but no touch monitor. Is the touch needed for the very first power up or could he have a monitor plugged into the sdi for the initial startup?

2) is there a new sync breakout cable needed for weapon using the base expander?

Cool didn't realize the old cable was compatible, so I suppose the wooden camera b-box still works then too...

To follow up, what happens the first time powering up weapon with no touchscreen? Will there be a clean feed on the sdi that I will have to turn on menus on the sdi using the sidekick?

You should see the menus on the monitor.

See Stacey's response below since he had experience with this.

I was in the exact same situation, I received my brain before the LCD. I used the HDMI output and I believe it was a clean feed. I was able to use the Sidekick to enable the menus so that I could operate the camera. As is, I was not able to start a black shade just using the Sidekick's built-in display / menu system.

I fell in love with the Sidekick at that time. It is much more useful than I expected it to be. Would be great if the new side handle had the same display as the Sidekick, though not sure if that is possible.

I had an odd issue that when I got the camera and put a Canon CN lens on the camera asked did I want to do a "Lens Calibration" but I could not select any of the menu options with the Sidekick and EVF so I was stuck. I had to use my LCD touchscreen as it allowed me to select options with the "Lens Calibration" dialogue boxes. ?????

What about WiFi setup out of the box? I'm hoping to use foolcontrol on my iPhone to control most settings until I can afford the Touchscreen.

You must enable Wifi, it is off by default. If you don't have the sidekick or LCD, I someone talked about making a profile that you can install during bootup that would enable wifi. Something like that, a bit hazy. :)

Tom, if you press the mode, or menu, (I forget which one at the moment) button on the sidekick, you should be able to then move the cursor around on the LCD and get past that dialog.

They need to get a new Side Handle finished quick. It was so useful for every function of the camera if you didn't want the touchscreen.

A new Side Handle and $34,000.00 is the only thing holding me back at the moment from going Weapon.

You don't need side handle when you have the side kick.

That's too bad. I guess I will have to buy a Lemo adapter and then borrow the 5" Touchscreen from my Epic Dragon to get the WiFi set up. I wish it was turned on my default.

Fool control on iPhone is cheaper
