  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What if someone made a dual geared follow focus for Scarlet to control both lenses when side by side in 3d configuration?

Would this be hard because of having to adjust the convergence for different focal lengths?

Thoughts?

I've seen double geared follow focus rigs for 3D, so it certainly can be done. In 2009, I'd say the best way to do this would be electronically with interlocked encoders so that the two units would not be physically attached, other than perhaps by a cable. That frees up any convergence adjustment issue. It's easy enough to make a mechanical rig that can be reset for each lens change and for each convergence change, but what gets tricky is a mechanical rig that can handle a dynamic convergence shift, where the displacement is altered live during the shot. Without a huge, heavy and fussy rack & pinion rig it gets real ugly real fast.

I know that your Question gears towards the ff35, but i hope the electronic Zoom of the fixed scarlet 2/3" can be used to adjust parallel. And I think that for 3D the 35mm dof would be to much. Don't know, but the Exe tries to focus how it wants and if a Image in 3d is all blurry besides the focus area it tends to be a hard one for independent focusing tries...

But yeah, I double this question. can you zoom without any problems or do you need to adjust the cams?
