Hey guys, can someone give some examples of modern movies that shot on non anamorphic lenses which then cropped the frame to 2:35:1 (doing a trick anamorphic instead of real anamorphic.) Preferrably some big hollywood films or large indie movies.

Just need some comparisons for a project I'm working on.

Thanks.

If you're also talking about 35mm, just search anything out anything "Super 35mm". It's way more common than anamorphic these days (unfortunately).

most 2.35 movies are non-anamorphic, cropped. It would be easier to make a list of anamorphic ones ;)

Even Quantum of Solace was done this way, no? The smaller neg area was pretty noticeable on the blu-ray.

Ooof...yeah, Quantum of Solace is very very grainy on Blu Ray, though...I kinda like the look (too bad I hate the movie). Though, on the blu ray you can really tell where some of the digital shots are. Totally grainless.

All the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films are super35...cropped widescreen. Amelie, A Very Long Engagement...both super35.

Splinter, the horror movie, is cropped widescreen and was shot with the D21 (or 20?).

Once Upon a Time in Mexico was shot with the F900 - 1.78:1, but was released theatrically as 2.39:1. The DVD however is its original 16x9 ratio. Lame.

Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 were both digital (F900 and 950) 1.78:1 but cropped and released as 2.39:1. The other 4 Star Wars films were all one form of anamorphic or another (Panavision, JDC, Hawk)

The new straight to DVD movie 'Wrong Turn at Tahoe' with Cuba Gooding Jr. was shot with the Red with spherical lenses and cropped to 2.39:1
