$2,000 Lighting Budget for Scarlet-W setup

Go Aputure. Great lights for the price.

+1 vote!

However with that small budget, he should probably consider some secondhand tungsten lights as well to supplement his kit. (I got last weekend a 2K blonde for just fifty bucks NZD!)

David,

That's a helluva price for a 2k Blonde. Almost mates-rates. Hot damn!

In that price range, I would highly recommend the Falcon eyes 18x24 daylight led matts. The color temp and cri are excellent, the price is right, and the output is plenty for a key light for an interview. they have punch.

+1. I took Nick's recommendation in a previous thread and went with these.
The things you can do with the included Velcro tape make these panels so versatile. Combine them to make a larger source, bend them to reshape the light, etc.

It is not pretty looking, a bit beat up. But I don't mind! :-)

As the cinemotography side of things I treat more as a hobby / semi professional side line, while sound has been my professional focus for these years.

3 - easy to shape directional light for specials on BG pieces, hit a specific thing etc.

Can anybody recommend a small (ideally bicolor) fixture for this purpose? Is there anything cheaper than the bicolor Dedo? Looked at the Aputure mini 20c but unsure about the output – besides that, I'm finding a ton of similarly-priced "focusable" fixtures from brands I've never heard of with zero reviews online.
