  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st EPIC Underwater Shoot...looking for a pool!

Underwater Lens Options

Underwater Lens Options

If we assume EPIC #008 is PL mount only for this underwater pool shoot and that Mike is placing an 8" dome on the housing then for CFWA:

Arri 14
Century/Canon 14
or
Arri 16
I would not go beyond 18mm unless...

switch to an 85mm for some slick CU slo-mo :-)

My favorite is the Sigma 12-24 on the EPIC underwater (nikon mount).

Mike, Johnny - what lens would you use?

We're way happy to have you making the housing Michael. You made the world's first Red One housing from my Red One 0008, so in my mind its only fitting that you get the chance to make this housing for Epic M8.

Our intention is definitely a much more compact housing than a re-purposed Red One housing...one engineered from the ground up for Epic.

BTW - the Epic M8 deal for this shoot won't be falling through. I won't be there, but I'm sure Ketch will definitely take real good good care of you on this Clay :-)

Thank you Steve, wish you could make it out man. You guys are pioneers, look forward to seeing what is created as my future EPIC is destined for the sea!

We will be flying to Miami, to meet Michael Hasting and taking M8 with it, so that the Housing can be finalized, then will shoot some
underwater tests in Miami, and off to NY to meet up with Clay, for this underwater shoot, plus some Aerials of NY city ;)

Shooting together with Clay, has been a long time coming... ;)

Cant wait Ketch! This 1st of many I am sure. Travel safe. :cheers2:

I know Ketch is bringing some nice glass, I also have a duclos 11-16 but I dont need to be so wide. I am working with limited space...(read indoor pool) and need to cover one model full body. I have access to cooke panchros as well which are smaller if size is an issue and they will cover my long end...but they are slower.

I look forward to shooting 5k overcranked as fast as I can get the beast to crank UW and really pushing DR and and high isos.

Ha....my favs:
1. Arri 14mm stadard 2.1 PL
2. Tokina 11-16 Duclos conversion rectilinear
3. New FAV: 10-17 nikon/tokina fisheye (using dome port)--my top fav now
4. CU: 16-85 Nikon with flatport--this one recently recommended me and love it now

**that's it....nothing else underwater anymore for me.

ken how are you mounting the nikon, dedicated mount or canon with an adapter?

i think safest bet for this shoot is tokina 11-16,

but i also have a couple 14mm f3.5 sigmas which were very popular in the F4 days and still considered very good lens. wth bigger epic frame about like shooting 12mm on 4K

If you are a professional union gaffer or know one that is experienced with working around water then please contact me. Looking at my light options now and have limited budget but taking every safety measure possible. Trying to source out some HydroPars if I can afford them.

Hey Michael...I actually have the ocean reef unit,

BTW FYI IIRC (typing on an iPad!) both OTS (like Johnny has) and Ocean Reef use the same comm frequency so they can talk to each other.
