Here are some of screen grabs from the "beauties" that I "shot" and focused them with manual @ handheld on 7D, ISO 1600, H264 compression today

and with my favorite lens that is 75 years old Carl Zeiss Olympia 180mm f/2.8 (Nikon F mount) on Canon 7D.

I'm just curious what could I get from 7D with uncompressed 4:2:2 in upcoming days?

The Ki-Pro's are nice. I have them for rental in NYC. You can get it with an exoskeleton as well as mini rods so you can sit the camera on top of it and have rods for all of your accessories. It is sort of big though. That cinedeck looked quite interesting. Has an HD monitor built right in and can be used like a traditional monitor.

Which is the right one? I don't think you will see a difference in image quality. Just the 2 different units with 2 different ways of mounting.

Tyler,

Also AJA KiPro is the best bet to capture HDMI from any source because it's totally mobile and rugged but I'll try with my 7D, BM IP, MBP and MEBP kit.

Stay tuned.

Sanjin! we are anticipating your test shot with this type of set up! its good news for me!! but its Friday already!! we're waiting!!!

I think Cineform sell an external capture unit that records to the Cinform codec too

I am very interested in this uncompressed capture technology for the Canon 7D. I am trying to find out if the Canon 1D Mark IV has the same HDMI out capabilities of the 7D (It should, it is more expensive after all). Hey Sanjin, have you tried the Syndicate 7D Tool software yet? link: http://www.syndicate.se/Default.aspx?Id=299

Why are you going for a Blackmagic setup instead of the Syndicate set up?

Can anyone confirm that the 1D mark IV would work with the Syndicate 7d Tool uncompressed 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 software?

Also Sanjin, Were there Syndicate uncompressed files that you played with in 4:4:4 like the software says or were they in 4:2:2. This whole uncompressed capture thing is very confusing but promising. Does anyone understand what syndicate is doing and has this really resolved all of the artifact problems that was present in the the standard 7D vid? Can someone explain the 1620x910 crop?

Tyler, great work and welcome to this fantastic community that is REDUSER, if ever in Vegas please shout.

Sanjin, I never do anything, as I know that all I have to do is wait for you to do it :-)

Very interested in finding out more, as I might have no choice but to shoot a piece on the 1D IV, and would love to have the best res and IQ quality possible for post, and for now all I know is to convert the h264 via cineform's Neoscene, but since the 1D IV does already shoot 24P (23.897) there is no need to extract the frame rate but only that of uncompressing the files via downsampling?

Any way, finding an easy and inexpensive way of bypassing the H264 would be fantastic, but there is no budget for it (other wise I would use the R1 hands down), so please do share via PM if you can all your findings and links to items to be purchased, in order to achieve it.

Thanks Sanjiin, one of this days I will pop up for a visit, I'm telling you :-)

regarding the syndicate software... it looks like it is reducing pixel aliasing... is this some kind of post softening... or actually getting better info from the sensor?

btw - maybe a new thread should be setup regarding this as we are trampling over a thread about a fantastic video. Really well shot!

Hey, guys I already posted here on another tread a sort of quick and dirty test with both R1 and 7D side by side that's a part of my Ultimate 2cam rig (R1+7D).

R1 is a winner as it was expected.

But the point is to use 7D as B camera that means when you can't get or shoot with R1 for a certain reason you go with 7D and make out of it later in post a sort of 16mm grainy look.

And why I took BM Intensity Pro it's because is cheaper variant to try out HDMI capture than Matrox MXO Mini (btw, I do have Kona 3 but it doesn't have HDMI).

Bussy at the moment and more details to come later....

Stay tuned.

Ketch, I would try out with a combo AJA KiPro, Exo-skeleton Camera Mounting and 1DMK4...on a tripod and GlideCam HD 4000...

Can-Do Film Festival and Competition

Tyler,

Check out the Can-Do Film Competition .... have included a special 'Military Services' section because of your cool work:

http://www.can-dofilmfest.com/

Would really like to have you as one of the Judges .... if DoD will allow it.

Let me know if you're interested .... looking forward to seeing your stuff up on the Can-Do ... you won't be eligible for a prize if you're a judge - your call.

Can you let your buddies in the Military Photo Units know about the competition ... they could be in with a great chance to win Overall First Prize.

Cheers,
Neil

As I'm preparing to shoot a Future entirely on the new 1D IV, do to the need of the smallest and absolutely best low light capturing device, doubling as both Filming camera and photo camera, cause of the subjects, the little available light, budget off course been the BIGGEST reason, or I would shoot with RED, I have to say that this sounds like a great idea, but I continue to be completely and totally against having to charge the FilmMaker with the cost to present their work, IMHO this should be a FREE service, and sponsored and paid for by the companies that participate in it, such are in this case CANON etc.

Otherwise to me they just seem to only want to take advantage of the extremely large groin gang of FilmMakers, rather then anything else.

Sorry but this is the way I fill about Sundance and any other so called Film Festival, they are at the end nothing else but money making machines, at the expense of hard working Filmmakers with chances slimmer then a needle.

Either way Good luck with it, at list the entrance fee is very reasonable.

Thanks Sanjin .... I was really hoping to have a Scarlet section this year as well .... next year when we run it again we'll have one for Scarlet shooters ... see my post on your other 7D thread ... get your entry in soon, dude .... its already generating a lot of buzz .... you'll definitely need some cute Viennese babes in your doc ;-)

Ketch ... the low-light capability of the 1D Mk IV is truly amazing ... got to play with one a few weekends ago .... you will be pleasantly surprised ... sorry about having to charge an entrance fee but even 'big companies' are being very tight with their sponsorship money this year .... I'll be glad if we just break even.

Really hoping that Tyler is going to 'volunteer' to be a judge .... already seen some amazing war-zone footage shot on the 5D or 7D ... apparently Canon have sold a bucket load of 5Ds/7Ds to the military.
