  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1DMARKIV

I think it will be the flagship that carries a lot of new technology.

I agree, I think we will still see significant improvement over the next couple years, but I also thing the IV with digicV will be the first since the 5DMKII set them off in the video direction that will have the benefit of putting some actual new technology into their asics. 5d, 7D were kind of stuck with whatever they could squeeze out of the digicIV which didn't really have anything specifically for video.

From the white paper :

With the built-in microphone or an external microphone, the sound
volume is adjusted automatically.

The actual framing rate of the EOS-1D Mark IV (and the EOS 7D) when set to 24 fps is 23.976 fps, to match industry standards for professional editing and production workflows.

They should add "...in a part of America" ! A pity they always do the same mistakes!

The 1DMKIV has dual Digic IV chips.

So is the view that the 5D mk2 fundamentally restricted in its ability to process media in that its not got enough on board processing to take advantage of future improvements from firmware/software updates ?

Surely, the 7D and 1D mk4 have two processors fro a reason ?

Dan Chung just shot this with a pre-pro 1D in Singapore.

60P - Lowlight 1200-6400 ISO

Most impressive despite some of the aliasing going on

http://vimeo.com/8186279

For sure impressive but aliasing will still remain as one of main backwards of all Canon's HD DSLRs.

Also it was shot in "not so" low light conditions and I'm sure 7D could handle it pretty good or almost similar at the same place (excellent lighted stadium) @ range from ISO 1200-1600.

We still have to wait for a real low light footage because even Vincent Laforet's Nocturne was not shot in a lower street light corners or dark indoors, etc,...

But with 7D you get 25fps and that's fine because you can do a real 24 from that as I'm sure you know very well.

Or in a closet in a dark room at night during a black out.
MOS.
:embarassed:

I've been wondering the same thing myself for a little while now......anyone have thoughts on this?

Two processors are always going to be able to handle more data functions than one. No one knows how much money, time and effort Canon will dedicate to squeezing every last drop out of video performance out of the 5DMk2, or when they will leave it to concentrate on the newer models.

Remember the video mode on the 5DMk2 was probably not ever intended as more than a nice feature for photojournalists. It's massive takeup by professional filmmakers was unexpected if Canon's reaction with the updated manual control firmware is any indication.

i just hope that they don't continue throttling models like they're appearing to do.....c'mon canon, red, et al, we want a full frame 24p with 120fps capability hdslr camera for under 2k....and it's only a matter of time really
