Besides Nocturne and the Aerial prep footage, is there any other test footage out there of the 1DMARKIV? I'm pretty pretty excited about the low light capabilities of this camera. Just don't know if it's worth the $5k pricetag

Richard at the moment Canon has kept a pretty tight leash for posting Videos, but there are few videos out there, I recently participated to a test shoot, and I must say that the camera performed extremely well, very clean files on a 30" Apple cinema Display, both for the MOtion Images as well as the Stills, and even so I hate to admit it, I might make good on my 1D IV pre-order and use it as well for shooting "Rape of a Beauty"Trailer" as finances might be very tight on this one to use RED, will see, any way the 1D IV seems surely better then the 5D II and 7D in all aspects.

Not going true the details as I wasn't there prepared to report in detail for it, but I'm sure in the days to come there will be plenty of reports as the cameras should hit first pre-order fulfillment any day now.

So is the view the 1D mk4 an improvement over the 5D mk2 and 7D motion picture images ?

Video is an improvement over the 5D2 and 7D, and its ability to operate in low light is very impressive!

Ketch, I hear you on the 1DMARKIV for use in a feature over the Red. Despite the flaws with the codec, the imagery you can get with very little to low light really appeals to me. Could be a whole resurgence of Dogma95 filmaking. I was blown away when I read that Nocturne was shot with available light.

Dave I only had the 5D II for half day and I immediately sold it, I got it for a second body for my 1Ds III, but the difference to me was so big in handling and shutter response that the 5D II went out as it came in, so I can't really make a direct comparison of the 1D IV to the 5D II other then the remarks given on the studio test of the 1D IV.

Richard even so teh amazing low light capturing capacity of the 1D Iv, I will never use it or any other camera, if I could use the RED in its place, I truly love the RED ONE and I know I will love much more the EPIC and the Scarlet but I need to shoot something, and if the budget doesn't allow to shoot RED then will shoot the 1D IV, just remember that it is not all about shooting in available lighting but also what the final image file looks like and how well will handle post, as well as well will project on a Cinema screen.

The pre-orders were all placed true Amazon and Calumet, a place in line also reserved on B&H for stock arrival, as even so they didn't want to take pre-orders, they do take a place in line to inform their clients for the arrival of the gear and give a chance to buy, in a first come first serve fashion, but still gives you an advantage.

Again not sure yet if I will make good on it, it all depends on available funds.

I'm hoping to get this 1D4 and then sell it right when the 1Ds4 comes out, and get that. Sure, I'll probably "lose" a thousand or so on the 1D4, but in the meantime I will rack up images worth 20x that cost.

That point is make way too much sense to me. I'm just trying to get a second DSLR that I can take out with me shooting TL. I was just thinking about getting a second 5D2 but if the 1D4 is really this amazing at low light and low noise than it almost might be worth the sacrifice in sensor size...almost.

Video is an improvement over the 5D2 and 7D...

Hi Tom, never replied to any of your posts, although i quite like your work, and share your appreciation for Terrence.
Can you elaborate on the improvements......also your thoughts on the additional digic processor...i'm thinking that in the future that extra power is going to be of far more use than a slightly larger sensor (ie the 5d mk2 sensor)

Also, what's the 1ds supposed to have over the 1d?

To me, the video just seemed all-around "improved" over the 5D2 and 7D -- slightly better-looking, slightly less aliasing, and much better ISO capability. I have not really pixel-peeped the footage closely, though. In fact, I forgot to copy a lot of the HD video footage onto my Nexto!

My main interest in the camera is the increased ISO when shooting RAW timelapse, plus the higher burst and sustained fps. It's also just a nice professional camera.

I think the 1Ds4 will probably be huge. Could we see major changes in the video sampling method and codec? I'm going to assume that the resolution will take a jump, and probably yet another round of game-changing ISO improvements. I have a hunch that the 1Ds4 will be very mouth-watering.

Tom, you have any leads on when the 1dsiv is going to drop? I keep hearing January but just rumors I guess

No leads. I think it will be middle of next year. The sooner the better, obviously!

Hrm, I wonder if that camera will have the new DigicV chips and if that will lead to even better video quality. I'm most interested in the ISO capabilities more than anything.

I think it will be the flagship that carries a lot of new technology.

I really hope they come out with the 1Ds4 soon. I would much rather wait for that camera especially if its going to be out some time early next year. I just really need another camera for the spring time. I'm taking a couple week road trip North and then East on a stock footage/TL expedition. Two DSLRs and my RED should be more than enough cameras for me.
