  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

18-85's

I will save you a call, James. I am 99.9% sure RED UK does not have a RPP set there yet :)

I am sure Alan or I will post when the RED EUROPE office has a set of RPP available to view.

This is so mean,

I want one so bad it is truly no even funny.

The 18-85 not only is an incredible zoom, but it is by far the absolute best in its range, including the LWZ, and the Rouge, I'm sure that if RED was to make a comparable zoom range to that of the ARRI MZ, it will be also bad A%@!!

Any way, one of this will make a new addition to my new lens collection, right next to the set of new RPP's and the 300 Pro.

... and the 18-85 is coming home!!

Congrats! We are looking to get one soon too.

Thanks!

This is definitely one of those lenses that is a must have! Too many times framing with Primes, has been a difficult task when space did not allow for a dolly zoom shot, and changing several lenses to get each frame right is okay too, but not when you need a zooming in and out effect, and even so I tend to prefer the Dolly Zoom shot, there is just times when the zooming of the Zoom it self is just better suited.

Also because I'll be doing lots of Photography with PL glass, this zoom will come so handy :).

The 18-85 will find good company with your set of RPP's Andrae :).

You won't regret it Ketch, it is a superb Zoom lens for the price. Here's a music video shot exclusively on the 18-85 Red:

Florian, that is excellent work. I very much enjoyed your demo reel as well, I have watched it more than a few times.

A question about the flares on the light bulbs- those were done in post, correct? To everyone who has the lens, how does this zoom flare? Does it resemble the RPPs in this respect?

thanks!

The flares from the lightbulbs come from a 3mm Tiffen streak filter all done on set.

I had heard of those streak filters, but I had not seen a good example of their use, let alone an example using the R1. Very pleasing effect.

Does Tiffen have those in different strengths? What kind of diffusion properties do they have? Great vid btw. That 18-85 is SHARP

18-85 is home in Vegas!!

18-85 is home in Vegas!!

Well, here it is at home, awaiting for its friends and family soon to join :)

Count on a Deep and detailed review on this lens to come soon, we should actually have the Arri MASTER ZOOM here as well, so it will be interesting.

Also as soon as the Girls and my health allows, I will do a shoot, of both stills and video.
