What I'm looking for now is a good monitor for the set which can be used for getting good focus from the 1rst AC. 7" seems too small for me, to get accurate focusing from the downrezed image. I think what would be needed would be more along the lines of a 17 or 20" monitor. Correct me if I'm wrong and 7" is enough.

One interesting point is the new follow focus system from Viewfactor which is affordable and wireless, and I plan on getting. With this setup, the AC doesn't necessarily have to be beside the camera on a dolly or jib shot if you have the signal sent to a stationary 17" monitor somewhere nearby via HD-SDI or HDMI. I would think he could just stay at that monitor, and also stay in sight of distance markings, AND easily out of the eyelines of the talent.

I'm thinking that you wouldn't need it to be a perfectly calibrated monitor just for focusing, but still look decent for clients. Also something you could put on a tripod for easy positioning and mobility around the set. Would a computer LCD monitor be fine for this application? Could you use a HDMI to DVI adapter to hook one up? Is anyone else using a setup like this? Or would you go for something like Marshall's new 17" IMD monitor, cause that's the cheapest I see with an HD-SDI input at that size.

Personally, I'm using a 24" computer monitor for that purpose. I chose one that's relatively lightweight and has HDMI and DVI ins. If there's need for a 1:1 pixel representation, I can use my HDLink to run an SDI into the DVI, but normally I just run a longer HDMI cable to get a fullscreen director's monitor.

I bought a VESA 100mm mount to baby spud (to put it on a light/c-stand) adapter from filmtools. Whole setup was around 650$.

That sounds pretty good. But don't you want 1:1 pixel representation for focusing? Is there a computer display option out there that gives you 1:1 pixel display through HDMI, and correct aspect ratio?
